1.Description

This release provides updated System BIOS(1.0.6M61) for the following 
enhancements of NEC Express5800/120Li.

  - Microcode update for DualCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 5100 series, and
    QuadCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 5300 series
    - This update resolves an issue on the DualCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 
      5100 series and QuadCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 5300 series that 
      could result in an application error, blue screen, or other 
      unpredictable system behavior under an unlikely and complex sequence 
      of conditions in 64bit mode.
    - This issue does not occur in following environments
           32bit OS environment
           32bit applications in 64bit OS environment.
  - Memory error detection functional strengthening. 

Attention:
  * Incorrect update could result in the problems such as failure to boot the 
    system. Update the system following the instructions in this document to 
    prevent the error in operation. Unexpected accidents such as power failure, 
    lightning strike, interrupt and noise during the system update may damage 
    the device or make the system malfunction in the worst case. Be noted that 
    you may need to pay for the repair fee for the above cases.
  


2.  Models

Note: You do not need to update the system BIOS when its version is newer than 
the above version since it has already included the equivalent enhancements.


Be sure to check the BIOS Version with the following procedures.

    1. Power on the system and the contents of process by 
       POST(Power On Self-Test) will be shown on the screen. After a short 
       time, the following message will appear. Start BIOS SETUP screen by 
       pressing <F2> key. 
                        "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

       Note: In case the LOGO screen appears, you can change to the screen mode
       which shows the above message by pressing <ESC> key.

    2. Select "System Management" after moving the cursor on the position of 
       "Server" with the arrow key after starting BIOS SETUP screen.

    3. The BIOS Version will be shown on the screen.

    4. Exit "System Management" screen with the <ESC> key after checking 
       the BIOS Version.

    5. Terminate the BIOS SETUP screen by selecting "Exit Discarding Changes" 
       after moving the cursor on the position of "Exit" with the arrow key.

  (*) Refer to "BIOS SETUP" in the chapter of "Hardware Part" in the user's 
      guide for details of BIOS SETUP setting.

You can check the BIOS Version with the following procedure when you use 
Windows(R) OS.

    1. Start "System Information".
       (Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information)
    2. Select "System Summary".
    3. Check the BIOS version by the profile of "BIOS version/Date".


3. Installation procedures

You need the following for the installation:

     1. A 1.44MB 2HD floppy disk (FD) *Required for each system you are going
        to update
     2. The NEC EXPRESSBUILDER CD-ROM provided with your system.

3-1  Creating a BIOS update FD

     1. Extract Zip archived file that you have downloaded.
     2. Copy all the files in BIOS folder into the 2HD FD.
        This FD will be used as the BIOS update FD.
       
        Label the FD as follows: 
  
	   [BIOS update FD]
           NEC Express5800/XXXX
           (N8000-YYYY)
           BIOSVERSION6M61
           System BIOS update data

     Note: "XXXX" and "YYYY" are a model name and a product code of the system
            you are going to update.

3-2.  Updating your BIOS

     Perform the following steps to update your BIOS. Use the BIOS update FD
     that you have created in section 3.1:

     (1)  Insert the NEC EXPRESSBUILDER DVD-ROM into the disk drive of your
          system, and boot the system from the DVD-ROM.
     (2)  Select [Maintenance Tools] from the Boot Selection Menu.
           * If the machine is being operated remotely using BIOS Console 
           * Redirection, select [Maintenance Tools (Redirection mode)].
     (3)  If Language selection Menu appears, select [English].
     (4)  Select [BIOS/FW Updating] from Maintenance Tools Menu.
     (5)  When the following message appears, insert the BIOS update FD into the
          FD drive, and then press the Enter key.

     (6)  When the following message appears, press the Enter key.

     (7)  When the following message appears, the files necessary for the 
          update will be copied to the FD. Please wait (about 2 minutes).

     (8)  When the following message appears, remove the NEC 
          EXPRESSBUILDER DVD-ROM from the DVD-ROM drive, and then press the
          Enter Key.

     (9)  Leave the BIOS update FD in the FD drive, and boot the system from
          the FD. 
          The following message will appear when the system reboots from the
          BIOS update FD:

              0123456
              Starting ROM-DOS ...
              789
              Checking BIOS Version. Please wait...
              Current BIOS Version: XXXX
              ROM File BIOS Version: YYYY

              The update process will take approximately 4 to 5 minutes.
              DO NOT power off the system during this update process.

              If the machine is being operated remotely (Console Less models),
              the screen may appear not to be updated during the update process.
              But this is no problem.
              When the BIOS update is completed, the screen is restarted to 
              update.

     (10) The BIOS update tool will run after press any key.
          The update will take approximately 4 to 5 minutes. Do not power off
          the system during update.
          The following message will appear when the update is complete.

              Flash memory has been successfully programmed
              PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART THE SYSTEM
              If the system does not restart,
              TURN THE POWER OFF, THEN ON

     (11) Press the Enter key to reboot the system.

     (12) Boot the system from the FD. 
          The update is complete when the following message appears:

              0123456
              Starting ROM-DOS ...
              789
              Checking BIOS Version. Please wait...
              Current BIOS Version: xxxx
              ROM File BIOS Version: yyyy
              BIOS Update has already done.
              Please take out BIOS update media and reboot.

     (13) Remove the FD from the FD drive, and then restart the system.

     (14) Press the F2 key during boot, and start the BIOS Setup Menu.
          Select [Server] -> [System Management].
          Make sure your BIOS Version has been updated to:

              BIOS Version:          6M61

     Your BIOS has been updated.

4.Notice

4-1. You may need to change the boot order of CD/DVD to the highest depending 
     on the boot order of your system . Refer to the user's guide for the 
     change of the boot order of the device.

4-2. The following messages may appear at the startup of BIOS Update tool.

     a. BIOS Update has already done.
        Please take out BIOS update media and reboot.

        They mean that your system has been updated with the same BIOS Version 
        and you do not need to update the system.

     b. This BIOS is NEW. Don't need BIOS update.

        They mean that your system has been updated with the equivalent BIOS 
        Version and you do not need to update the system.

     c. System Type Unmatched !!

        They mean that your system is not supported by the BIOS update and you 
        need to check your system and the BIOS Version.

     d. Invalid BIOS data   /   BIOS data unmatched!!

        They mean that the media for "BIOS update data" may have defectives 
        and you need to prepare the media which does not have defectives.

     e. cmoschg Error!     /    keychk Error!

        They mean that your system is not supported by the BIOS update and you 
        need to check your system and the BIOS Version.
