1.Description

This release provides updated System BIOS(1.0.3023) for the following 
enhancements of NEC Express5800/110Ri-1.

  - Microcode update for Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 3000 series,
    Microcode update for Intel(R)Pentium(R) Processor E2100 series,
    Microcode update for Intel(R)Celeron(R) Processor 400 series
    - This update resolves an issue on the Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 3000
      series, Intel(R)Pentium(R) Processor E2100 series and Intel(R)
      Celeron(R) Processor 400 series that could result in an application 
      error, blue screen, or other unpredictable system behavior under
      an unlikely and complex sequence of conditions in 64bit mode.
    - This issue does not occur in following environments
           32bit OS environment
           32bit applications in 64bit OS environment.

Attention:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow 
    the procedure for successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is 
    powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power 
    blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and 
    fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be 
    taken at your expense.
  
  - Before considering the implementation of Windows Server(R) 2008, be sure to 
    refer to the Hardware Information located in the NEC Express5800 Series 
    Windows Server(R) 2008 Information pages for hardware configurations.
  
  - To use Windows Server(R) 2008, read thoroughly the Manual located in the 
    NEC Express5800 Series Windows Server(R) 2008 Information pages prior to 
    installation, so that no erroneous operation will be conducted.
  
  - If Windows(R) BitLocker(TM) is enabled on your system, please disable it 
    temporarily during BIOS update. If you don't turn it off, you may need 
    "recovery password" after BIOS update.


2.  Models

  - Models to be supported

     1. 1.0.0006
     2. 1.0.1009
     3. 1.0.1011
     4. 1.0.1012
     5. 1.0.1014
     6. 1.0.2019
     7. 1.0.2020
     8. 1.0.2021
     9. 1.0.3022
Note: You do not need to update the system BIOS when its version is newer than 
the above version since it has already included the equivalent enhancements.


Be sure to check the BIOS Version with the following procedures.

(1)  Power on the system.
(2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
Setup Menu. 
                              "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

(3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
(4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
(5)  The software versions of your system will be displayed. 
(6)  After confirmation of the software versions, press the ESC key and exit 
the [System Management] sub menu. 
(7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
(8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 
 
See your User's Guide for more details about BIOS Setup.

You can check the BIOS Version with the following procedure when you use 
Windows(R) OS.

    1. Start "System Information".
       (Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information)
    2. Select "System Summary".
    3. Check the BIOS version by the profile of "BIOS version/Date".


3. Installation procedures

You need the following for the installation:

     1. A 1.44MB 2HD floppy disk (FD) *Required for each system you are going
        to update
     2. The NEC EXPRESSBUILDER CD-ROM provided with your system.

3-1  Backup Boot Order
     
     1. Power on the system.
     2. Press F2 to enter Setup menu.
     3. Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Boot]. 
     4. Please record Boot Order.

         Example : 
          1:  USB CDROM:
          2:  IDE CD: MATSHITADVD-ROM SR-8178-(P
          3:  USB FDC: Y-E DATA USB-FDU-(USB 1.1)
          4:  USB KEY:
          5:  IDE HDD: 
          6:  PCI SCSI: P0-WDC WD800JD-19MSA1
          7:  USB HDD:
          8:  PCI BEV: IBA GE Slot 00C8 v1250
           :  PCI BEV: IBA GE Slot 0D00 v1240

     5. Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
     6. Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 

3-2  Creating a BIOS update FD

     1. Extract Zip archived file that you have downloaded.
     2. BIOS_1 will be used if BIOS Revision of your system is older than the 
        following BIOS Revision.  BIOS_2 will be used if BIOS Revision of your
        system is the same as the following BIOS Revision or new. 

           BIOS Revision:  1.0.1012

     3. Copy all the extracted files into the 2HD FD.
        This FD will be used as the BIOS update FD.
       
        Label the FD as follows: 
  
	   [BIOS update FD]
           NEC Express5800/XXXX
           (N8000-YYYY)
           1.0.3023
           System BIOS update data

     Note: "XXXX" and "YYYY" are a model name and a product code of the system
            you are going to update.

3-3.  Updating your BIOS

     Perform the following steps to update your BIOS. Use the BIOS update FD
     that you have created in section 3.1:

     (1)  Insert the NEC EXPRESSBUILDER DVD-ROM into the disk drive of your
          system, and boot the system from the DVD-ROM.
     (2)  Select [Tool menu] from the Boot Selection Menu.
           * If the machine is being operated remotely using BIOS Console 
           * Redirection, select [Tool menu (Redirection mode)].
     (3)  If Language selection Menu appears, select [English].
     (4)  Select [BIOS/FW Updating] from Maintenance Tools Menu.
     (5)  When the following message appears, insert the BIOS update FD into the
          FD drive, and then press the Enter key.

     (6)  When the following message appears, press the Enter key.

     (7)  When the following message appears, the files necessary for the 
          update will be copied to the FD. Please wait (about 2 minutes).

     (8)  When the following message appears, remove the NEC 
          EXPRESSBUILDER DVD-ROM from the DVD-ROM drive, and then press the
          Enter Key.

     (9)  Leave the BIOS update FD in the FD drive, and boot the system from
          the FD. 
          The following message will appear when the system reboots from the
          BIOS update FD:

              0123456
              Starting ROM-DOS ...
              789
              Checking BIOS Version. Please wait...
              Current BIOS Version: XXXX
              ROM File BIOS Version: YYYY

              The update process will take approximately 4 to 5 minutes.
              DO NOT power off the system during this update process.

              If the machine is being operated remotely (Console Less models),
              the screen may appear not to be updated during the update process.
              But this is no problem.
              When the BIOS update is completed, the screen is restarted to 
              update.

     (10) The BIOS update tool will run after press any key.
          The update will take approximately 4 to 5 minutes. Do not power off
          the system during update.
          The following message will appear when the update is complete.

              Flash memory has been successfully programmed
              PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART THE SYSTEM
              If the system does not restart,
              TURN THE POWER OFF, THEN ON

     (11) Press the Enter key to reboot the system.

     (12) Boot the system from the FD. 
          The update is complete when the following message appears:

              0123456
              Starting ROM-DOS ...
              789
              Checking BIOS Version. Please wait...
              Current BIOS Version: xxxx
              ROM File BIOS Version: yyyy
              BIOS Update has already done.
              Please take out BIOS update media and reboot.

     (13) Remove the FD from the FD drive, and then restart the system.

     (14) Press the F2 key during boot, and start the BIOS Setup Menu.
          Select [Server] -> [System Management].
          Make sure your BIOS version has been updated to:

              BIOS Version  1.0.3023

     (15) Please make it the same as BootOrder recorded by the item 3-1. 

         Example : 
          1:  USB CDROM:

     Your BIOS has been updated.


4. Notes

(1) If the BIOS update tool does not automatically start as described in "3-2. 
BIOS update procedure", a message may appear indicating the reason why the tool 
has not started:

 (a) BIOS Update has already done.
     Please take out BIOS update media and reboot.

     The BIOS version of the current system is the same as the update version,
     and does not require updating.

 (b) This BIOS is NEW. Don't need BIOS update.

     The BIOS version of the current system is newer than the update version, 
     and the functions equivalent to those included in the update have already 
     been applied to the system, and does not require updating.

 (c) System Type Unmatched !!

     This message will appear when attempts are made to apply the BIOS update to
     inapplicable models.
     Confirm "Models" and "BIOS versions" in "2.  Applicable models".

 (d) "Invalid BIOS data" or "BIOS data unmatched!!"

     Either of these messages will appear when the data contained in the "BIOS 
     update data" floppy disk is invalid. Be certain to use "BIOS update data" 
     floppy disks that are free from defects.

 (e) "cmoschg Error!" or "keychk Error!"

     This message will appear when attempts are made to apply the BIOS update to
     inapplicable models.
     Confirm "Models" and "BIOS versions" in "2.  Applicable models".

 (f) BIOS upadte tool Unmatched !!

     The data of BIOS update FDis wrong. 
     Please re-check an item 3-2 "Creating a BIOS update FD".
