1.  About the software

The NEC Express5800/B120a, NEC Express5800/B120b, NEC Express5800/B120a-d, NEC Express5800/B120b-d,
NEC Express5800/B120b-h BMC firmware update module ("the software") supports
the following functional enhancement. :

- Resolved an issue that the processor frequency is dropped by the BMC reset.
- Resolved an issue that there is a rare case that the BMC is reset when
  the BMC is logged in via the command line interface (telnet).

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow the procedure for
    successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is powered off due to an unplanned event
    during update (for example, power blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be
    damaged and fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your
    expense.

  - This software does not support to update the BMC firmware by Remote Media on EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2.


2.  Models and software revisions for update 

Users who use the following server models and BMC firmware versions need update:
 - Models to update: 
     NEC Express5800/B120a
     NEC Express5800/B120b
     NEC Express5800/B120a-d
     NEC Express5800/B120b-d
     NEC Express5800/B120b-h

 - BMC firmware versions to update:

      - BMC firmware

                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.10
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.11
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.15
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.16
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.17
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.18

NOTE:
If your BMC firmware version is later than the above, you do not require the update(the latest versions
already include the functions to be added by the software).

 - How to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

   - By ESRAS Utility, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Run the ESRAS Utility.
(2)  Select the [Intelligent Platform Management Interface] sub menu.
(3)  Select the [Management controller information] sub menu.
(4)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
(5)  The BMC firmware versions of your system will be displayed.

   - By BIOS Setup, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Power on the system.
(2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS Setup Menu.

                              "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

(3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
(4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
(5)  The software versions of your system will be displayed. 
(6)  After confirmation of the software versions, press the ESC key and exit the [System Management] sub
     menu. 
(7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
(8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 

   - By ESMPRO Manager Ver.5, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Run ESMPRO Manager Ver.5.
(2)  After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab.
(3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.
(4)  Select the [MC(Management Controller) Information] sub menu.
(5)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
(6)  The BMC firmware version of your system will be displayed.

    - By EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2.
(2)  Select the [Information] sub menu.
(3)  Select the [System information] sub menu.
(4)  Select the [Firmware] sub menu.
(5)  The software versions of your system will be displayed.


3.  Installation procedures

- Prepare a CD-R for the update BMC firmware.

- How to copy the install CD-R:

(1) Download the update module to a desired directory.
(2) Extract the downloaded module to a desired directory.
(3) The software and its installation procedures (readme file) will be extracted to that specified folder.
(4) Write the ISO image file to a CD-R by any CD writing program.
(5) Mark the BMC firmware version on the media.

- How to update:

(1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive of your system, and boot the system from the CD-R.
(2) Automatically update BMC firmware using the CD-R, do not turn off the power until the
    complete.
(3) After the complete, the following messages are displayed.

    All programming complete, power off the server for normal operation.

(4) Eject the CD-R and press power button to power off the system.
(5) Confirm that the BMC firmware Revision has been updated to the version listed below.

    BMC Firmware Revision  :  01.19


- Note after the updated BMC firmware :

(1) Logout all web browser on your system.
(2) Login the web browser on your system if necessary.
     (You need to apply Java 2 Standard Edition Runtime Environment 5.0 or later for a Management PC.)


4.  Note

(1) Check the boot sequence of your system in order to boot the disk drive of the CD-R at first.
(2) When the following message appears, check the model.

    ERROR: Hw ID no match !!!

- Fixed the issue that the server power sometimes does not turn off
  by using the Force Power Off function from remote access.

2011/09/01 BMCFW Revision 01.17

- It supported network monitoring software such as Op5_Monitor and health
  check to use "openssl s_client -connect".
- The function which controls each signal of Break,CTS,DCD/DSR from
  remoteness in IPMI SOL (Serial Over LAN) is supported.
- When using JRE6 Update19 and later version, the Problem that an unsigned
  applet start-up is blocked by security check is improved.

2010/04/06 BMCFW Revision 01.16

- Improved not to send PET alerting from BMC about the event that already proccessed by ESMPRO/SA.
- Improved not to respond to access via unused port with LAN interface of the EXPRESSSCOPE engine2.
- Improved to enable to use Remote KVM/Remote Media function with BMC IP address which includes "255".

The following changes apply to the BMC Firmware Revision 01.10 or 01.11.

- Extended the term of validity for SSL server certificate of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2 to ten years.
- Supported the function of WS-Management.
- Changed the discription of HDD Sensor from "HDD" to "Driver" on "System Environment" of the Web Server 
  function.
- Supported the enable/disable function of Auto SEL Clear via command line interface.
- Supported the Access Log function via command line interface.
- Improved EXPRESSCOPE engine2 to respond to ping from ohter network segment.
- Supported the function that shows Remote Device Status on the server panel.
- Supported the warning message about failing to run the Remote KVM console applet in case of an out of 
  JRE memory.
- Improved the issue that the timestamp on the System Event Logs (SEL) window is shown as +1hour from 
  actual time if the OS of the management PC was set as summor time.
- Improved the issue that Remote KVM console becomes not available only occasionally by the operation 
  with Remote KVM console which changes graphic mode of the host system.
  (example. refresh screen / OS shutdown)
- Supported the Local Monitor Lock function on a Remote KVM console.
- Supported the Zoom Function of host system's screen on a Remote KVM console.
- Improved the Remote Media function that to be enabled to connect two ISO image simultaneously.
- Supported the function to mount ISO image files and to be connectted by the Management PC which runs 
  Linux in the Remote Media function, at the Host System which runs Windows Server(R) 2008 or Windows 
  Server(R) 2008 R2.
