1. Software introduction 

This release of N8405-019/019A firmware (hereinafter the "Software")
adds support for the following functional enhancements to N8405-019/019A
EM Card EMFW Rev 10.07.

- Enhanced the performace of power management feature when there are
  many Express/B120d-h, B120, B110d installed in the enclosure.
- Enhanced the recovery feature of communication lost with the CPU blade.
- Improved the EM Card response when the network load is very high.
  Networking performance will decrease slightly with this improvement.

EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine (BMC) firmware also need to be updated for
Express5800/120Bb-6,120Bb-d6, and 120Bb-m6 if EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine (BMC) 
firmware is older than revision 00.20.
For details, please refer to the support information of each blade server.

Important:
  This software can not be used to update revision 01.xx to 10.08 directly.
  Update to revision 02.xx or 03.xx before updating to 10.08.



2. Applicable models

N8405-019/019A  EM Card (EMFW Rev 10.07 or earlier)



3. Overview of the procedures (for two EM Card configuration)

In this document, the necessary procedures for updating the N8405-019/019A
firmware is described.  Follow the procedures described in this document.
For procedures for one EM Card configuration, see section 5.

(1) Backup the configuration
(2) Update the EM Card 1 firmware
(3) Execute switchover
(4) Update the active EM Card 2 firmware
(5) Restore the configuration

EM Card 1 points to the standby EM Card and EM Card 2 points to the active
EM Card before starting the firmware update procedures described below.



4. Update procedures (for two EM Card configuration)

Please refer to "Chapter 4. Using Web Console Feature" of the N8405-019/019A
EM Card User's Guide also.


4.0 Update file

(1) Copy the update file (emfw_M_1008b2itf0105.tgz) to the computer
    which you are using the web console. (e.g. c:\temp)


4.1 Backup the configuration

(1) Login to the EM Card web console using the IP address of the active EM Card
    as shown below.

    URL: https://<Active EM Floating IP Address>/index.html

    If the IP address is not changed from the default, the URL is
    https://192.168.1.8/index.html
    For security reasons, using SSL is recommended.
    If SSL is not available, "http:" is also supported.

Note:
    - Please connect the LAN cables to the EM1/EM2 port at the rear of the
      enclosure unit.  LAN port at the front of the EM Card can not be used.
    - Floating IP address of the active EM Card can be confirmed from the
      SIGMABLADE Monitor.
      Operation procedure
        1. Press the [Menu] button on the SIGMABLADE Monitor.
        2. Select [5:System CONFIG] with the down arrow button and
           press the [Enter] button.
        3. Enter the SIGMABLADE Monitor password using the arrow buttons
           and press the [Enter] button. (default password is "0000")
        4. Press [Enter] button at [1:IP Address] and the IP address will
           be displayed.
        5. Press the [Menu] button to go back to the top menu.

(2) At the login page, enter the username and the password and click "login".
    The username is "admin" and the default password is "admin".

(3) Click "Configuration" on the menu bar.
(4) Click the "Backup Configuration" tab and click the "Execute" button.
(5) Backup will be executed after the backup filename and the folder to
    save the backup file is specified.
(6) Click "Logout" on the menu bar and exit the web console.


4.2 Update the EM Card 1 firmware

(1) Login to the EM Card web console using the IP address of the standby EM Card
    as shown below.

    URL: https://<Standby EM Floating IP Address>/index.html

    Standby EM floating IP address is the IP address with 1 added to
    the last digit of active EM floating IP address.
    If the IP address is not changed from the default, the URL is
    https://192.168.1.9/index.html

(2) Click "Update" on the menu bar.
(3) Specify the update file (emfw_M_1008b2itf0105.tgz).
(4) Click "Execute" to start the update. (about 8 minutes)
(5) EM Card will reboot after the update is complete.

Note: During reboot (about 2 minutes), network connection to the standby
      EM Card will be disconnected.

(6) After the EM Card reboot is complete, login to the EM Card web console again.
(7) Click "About EM Card" on the menu bar and confirm the EM Card firmware
    revision.


4.3 Execute switchover

(1) Login to the standby EM Card web console.
(2) Click "Switchover" on the menu bar.
(3) Click "Executer" to start switchover.

Note: After switchover, EM Card 1 will switch to active EM Card and
      EM Card 2 will switch to standby EM Card.


4.4 Update the EM Card 2 firmware

(1) Login to the standby EM Card web console.
(2) Click "Update" on the menu bar.
(3) Specify the update file (emfw_M_1008b2itf0105.tgz).
(4) Click "Execute" to start the update. (about 8 minutes)
(5) EM Card will reboot after the update is complete.

Note: During reboot (about 2 minutes), network connection to the EM Card
      will be disconnected.

(6) After the EM Card reboot is complete, login to the EM Card web console.
(7) Click "About EM Card" on the menu bar and confirm the EM Card firmware
    revision.


4.5 Restore the configuration

(1) Login to the active the EM Card web console.
(2) Click "Configuration" on the menu bar.
(3) Click "Restore Configuration" tab.
(4) Specify the backup file saved in 4.1
(5) Click "Execute" to apply the backup file.

Note: EM Card will reboot automatically after execute.  During reboot
      (about 2 minutes), network connection to the EM Card will be disconnected.

Update is now complete.



5. Overview of the procedures (for one EM Card configuration)

In this document, the necessary procedures for updating the N8405-019/019A
firmware is described.  Follow the procedures described in this document.
For procedures for two EM Card configuration, see section 3.

(1) Backup the configuration
(2) Send the update file to the EM Card via ftp
(3) Update the EM Card firmware
(4) Restore the configuration



6. Update procedures (for one EM Card configuration)

  Please refer to "Chapter 3. Using Command Line Console Feature" and
  "Chapter 4. Using Web Console Feature" of the N8405-019/019A EM Card
  User's Guide also.


6.0 Update file

(1) Copy the firmware update file (emfw_M_1008b2itf0105.tgz) to the computer
    which you are using the web console. (e.g. c:\temp)


6.1 Backup the configuration

(1) Login to the EM Card web console using the IP address of the active EM Card
    as shown below.

    URL: https://<Active EM Floating IP Address>/index.html

    If the IP address is not changed from the default, the URL is
    https://192.168.1.8/index.html
    For security reasons, using SSL is recommended.
    If SSL is not available, "http:" is also supported.

Note:
    - Please connect the LAN cables to the EM1/EM2 port at the rear of the

6.2 Send the update file to the EM Card via ftp

Send the firmware update file (emfw_M_1008b2itf0105.tgz) to the EM Card via ftp.
The username is "nec_update" and the password is "nec_update".


6.3 Update the EM Card firmware

(1) Login to the EM Card console(serial or telnet/ssh).
    The login username is "admin" and the default password is "admin".
(2) Execute "updatefw -update" and select y when asked for y/n.
(3) EM Card will reboot automatically after the update is complete.

Note: During reboot (about 2 minutes), network connection to the EM Card
      will be disconnected.

(4) After the EM Card reboot is complete, login to the EM Card web console.
(5) Click "About EM Card" on the menu bar and confirm the EM Card firmware
    revision.


6.4 Restore the configuration

(1) Login to the EM Card web console.
(2) Click "Configuration" on the menu bar.
(3) Click "Restore Configuration" tab.
(4) Specify the backup file saved in 6.1
(5) Click "Execute" to apply the backup file.

Note: EM Card will reboot automatically after execute.  During reboot
      (about 2 minutes), network connection to the EM Card will be disconnected.

Update is now complete.



7. Notes

- This document is intended specifically for updating N8405-019/019A EM Card.
  Do not use this document for any other use.

- EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine (BMC) firmware also need to be updated for
  Express5800/120Bb-6,120Bb-d6, and 120Bb-m6 if EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine (BMC) 
  firmware is older than revision 00.20.
  For details, please refer to the support information of each blade server.

- To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow
  the procedure for successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is
  powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power
  blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and
  fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be
  taken at your expense.

- In order to update following the procedures in this document, you will need
  the following.

    Firmware Update Procedure (this document)
    EM Card management PC (LAN cable is also required)

  A management PC is a PC connected to the EM1/EM2 port (management LAN
  interface) at the rear of the SIGMABLADE-M via LAN.

- Please backup and restore the configuration by following the procedures
  in this document.  Configuration may be lost during update.

- There is no need to stop the CPU Blades during update.

- Connection to the CPU Blades and Switch Modules via management LAN
  (e.g. remote KVM) will be temporary disconnected during update.
  System monitoring with softwares such as ESMPRO/ServerManager will also
  be temporary unavailable.  If a timeout should occur, reconnect after
  updated is complete.

- This software can not be used to update revision 01.xx to 10.08 directly.
  Update to revision 02.xx or 03.xx before updating to 10.08.

- Fixed a problem where fan revolution is slower (100 to 300 rpm) than
  required in a low temperature state.
- EM Card will execute a switchover when its operation is stopped due to an
  internal logging error.
