1.  About the software
The NEC Express5800/E120d-M BMC firmware and SDR update module ("this software") 
supports the following functional enhancement in the NEC Express5800/E120d-M 
models:

 - Supported the DC 12V Input Module. (BMCFW and SDR)
     * It doedn't function by an update of this software.
     * Please use an offline update module.              
 - Fixed the issue that the retrying of SNMP alerting is only done to Alert 
   Receiver 1 in case Alert Progress setting is configured as One Alert 
   Receiver.
 - Fixed the issue that the encryption does not work on JRE7 environment
   even when Encryption of Remote KVM console in System Operation 
   Configuration is enabled.
 - Improved the threshold of voltage sensors. (SDR)

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow 
    the procedure for successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is 
    powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power 
    blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and 
    fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be 
    taken at your expense.
  
  - This software does not support virtualization environment.
  
  - To use for this software on Linux(R) OS environment, "OpenIPMI" package must
    have been installed and executed.
  
  - If you use ExpressUpdate function of NEC ESMPRO Manager Version.5, 
    [ 2.  Models and software revisions for update ] and 
    [ 3.  Installation procedures ] are processed automatically. 
    Please refrer to [ 4.  Notes ].

2.  Models and software revisions for update 
Users who use the following server models and BMC firmware and SDR revisions 
need update:

 - Models to update: 
     1.  NEC Express5800/E120d-M
   
 - BMC firmware and SDR revision to update:
   
      - BMC firmware
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  00.08
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  00.09
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  00.10

     - SDR
                        SDR Revision:           00.02
                        SDR Revision:           00.03

NOTE:
If your BMC firmware and SDR revision are later than the above, you do not 
require the update(the latest revisions already include the functions to be 
added by the software).

2-1. How to confirm your BMC Firmware and SDR revision:

- By ESRAS Utility of NEC ESMPRO Agent

(1)  Run the ESRAS Utility.
(2)  Select the [Intelligent Platform Management Interface] sub menu.

 To confirm BMC Firmware revision:

(3)  Select the [Management controller information] sub menu.
(4)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
(5)  The BMC firmware revision of your system will be displayed.

 To confirm your SDR revision:

(6)  Select the [Senosr Data Record(SDR)] and the [Repository Information] sub menu.
(7)  The SDR version of your system will be displayed.


- By BIOS Setup

(1)  Power on the system.
(2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
     Setup Menu. 
                         "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

(3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
(4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
(5)  The software revisions of your system will be displayed. 
(6)  After confirmation of the software revisions, press the ESC key and exit 
     the [System Management] sub menu. 
(7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
(8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 

- By NEC ESMPRO Manager Ver.5

(1)  Run NEC ESMPRO Manager Ver.5.
(2)  After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab.
(3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.

 To confirm your BMC Firmware revision:

(4)  Select the [MC(Management Controller) Information] sub menu.
(5)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
(6)  The BMC firmware revision of your system will be displayed.

  To confirm of SDR version

(7)  Select the [SDR-Management Information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
(8)  The SDR version of your system will be displayed.


- By EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function

(1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3.
(2)  Select the [System] sub menu.
(3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.

  To confirm your BMC Firmware revision:

(4)  Select the [MC] button and select [Basbrd Mgmt Ctrl].
(5)  Check [Firmware Revision].

  To confirm of SDR version

(6)  Select the [SDR] button and select LAST Record ID / Record Type : OEMSDR
(7)  Check [[OEM Data] SDR Version].

3.  Installation procedures

3-1. Prepare
(1) Prepare a CD-R or a USB HDD for the update BMC firmware.
    If your system be able to access the update module on the web, 
    you may go to 3-2 or 3-3 "How to update".
(2) Download the update module, extract it to a desired directory.
(4) Copy the directory to a CD-R or a USB HDD.
(5) Delete the directory.
 
3-2.  How to update  for Windows(R) OS :

(1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive or USB HDD on USB Port of your system
    if necessary.
(2) Download or copy the update module to a desired directory.
(3) Run Command Prompt.
(4) Change directory into which you extracted the update module.
(5) Run following comamnd to BMC Firmware update.
            BMCUP.BAT
           
     (You should run Command Prompt, not to run Explorer.)

(6) Close unnecesssaly applications and press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            ####################################################
             BMC Firmware Online Update Tool (Windows)
            ####################################################
            
            Press any key to start update ...

(7) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. Press any key. 

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.
            
            Press any key to finish update ...

    Command Prompt will be diplayed.

(8) Run following comamnd to SDR update.
            SDRUP.BAT

(9) Press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.
    
            ####################################################
             SDR Online Update Tool (Windows)
            ####################################################
            
            Press any key to start update ...
    
(10) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 
     Press any key. 

            Programming complete, reboot server for normal operation
            === SDR Online Update end ===
            
            Press any key to finish update ...
            
    Command Prompt will be diplayed.

(11) Close Command Prompt.

(12) Reboot the your system.
     (You should reboot to activate the updated BMC firmware as soon as possible.)
     
(13) Confirm the BMC Firmware and SDR revision as below by any of 2-1. 
            BMC Firmware Revision  :  00.12
            SDR Revision           :  00.05


3-3 How to update  for Linux(R) OS :

(1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive or USB HDD on USB Port of your system
    if necessary.
(2) Download or copy the update module to a desired directory.
(3) Open the terminal.
(4) Change directory into which you extracted the update module.
(5) Run following comamnd to add execute authority and start BMC Firmware update.

            # chmod +x ./bmcup.sh
            # ./bmcup.sh

(6) Close unnecesssaly applications and press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            ####################################################
             BMC Firmware Online Update Tool (Linux)
            ####################################################
            
            Press <Enter> key to start update ...

(7) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.
            
            Press <Enter> key to finish update ...

    Press <Enter> key.  Prompt will be diplayed.

(8) Run following comamnd to add execute authority and start SDR update.

            # chmod +x ./sdrup.sh
            # ./sdrup.sh

(9) Press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.
    
            ####################################################
             SDR Online Update Tool (Linux)
            ####################################################
            
            Press <Enter> key to start update ...
    
(10) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 

            Programming complete, reboot server for normal operation
            === SDR Online Update end ===
            
            Press <Enter> key to finish update ...
            
    Press <Enter> key.  Prompt will be diplayed.

(11) Close the terminal.

(12) Reboot the your system.
     (You should reboot to activate the updated BMC firmware as soon as possible.)
     
(13) Confirm the BMC Firmware and SDR revision as below by any of 2-1. 
            BMC Firmware Revision  :  00.12
            SDR Revision           :  00.05

4.  Note

 4-1. Note after the updated BMC firmware:
      (1) Logout all web browser on your system.
      (2) Login the web browser on your system if necessary.
      
 4-2. Error message for updating BMC firmware

     C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
         - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
         - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware revision.

     C1  = Invalid parameter.
     C2  = Failed to image file load.
     C3  = The image file is corrupted.
     C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
     C5  = The image file is bigger than flash rom.
     C6  = Update tool does not support this firmware.
     C19 = File open error. (ExUpInfo.xml)
     C20 = Version info. Not exist. (ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
     C21 = Timeout was generated.
         - Cause : The update module may be broken.
         - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.

     C7  = Error while establishing the session.
     C8  = IPMI command error. (Get Device ID)
     C9  = IPMI command error. (Get FW Info)
     C10 = IPMI command error. (Enter FW Update)
     C11 = IPMI command error. (Upload FW Image)
     C12 = IPMI command error. (Get FW Update Status)
     C13 = IPMI command error. (Check FW Image)
     C14 = IPMI command error. (Exec FW Update)
     C15 = Update status error. (Enter FW Update)
     C16 = Update status error. (Upload FW Image)
     C17 = Update status error. (Check FW Image)
     C18 = Firmware update error.
         - Cause : The updating BMC firmware failed.
         - Answer: Retry to update the BMC firmware.
                   If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.

  4-3. Error message for updating SDR

    During updating SDR, following message might be displayed.

    (a) Can't open IPMI driver.
    (b) This SDR data is not supported.(Not Found HWID in mchk_fil)

       - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
       - Answer: Check the model.


    (c) Illegal parameter format.

       - Cause : The parameter of the update is illegal.
       - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.


    (d) unsupported SparedSDR command on BMC.Or, the time-out is generated by a system in high load.

       - Cause : The SDR update function is not support. Otherwise, 
                 the updating SDR failed for the system in high load.
       - Answer: Reboot the system after the BMC firmware is updated, then retry to update the SDR.
                 If the system is in high load, you may wait for normal load, then retry to update the
                 SDR.


    (e) Timeout was generated.
    (f) Get Device ID Command Error.
    (g) insufficient memory.
    (h) SDR record read error from BMC.
    (i) failed to clear the SDR repository.
    (j) failed to receive BMC response, bad completion code.
    (k) IPMI command retry error.
    (l) failed to open IPMI Driver.
    (m) failed to send IPMI command.
    (n) IPMI comand error for Backup/GetSdrVersion.
    (o) Backup File I/O error.
    (p) SDR file does not match with what was programmed into memory.
    (q) SDR file unsuccessfully written.
    (r) It failed in retrying of MSDriver. A high load of the system is thought as a cause.

       - Cause : The updating SDR failed for the system in high load.
       - Answer: If the system is in high load, you may wait for normal load, then retry to update the
                 SDR.


    (s) SDRVersion unmatched.

       - Cause : Tried to update same or old version SDR.
       - Answer: This message will be displayed by trying to update SDR that was same as current SDR
                 or older than current SDR.
                 (When this message is displayed, Updating SDR will be skipped.)
                 This is normal processing. you do not require any operation.

 - Changed to reboot management LAN port if management LAN port does not receive
    any packet for a certain period of time.
 - Improve the character-based remote console via command line interface  of
   EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 to be enabled to accept mass input for example to copy
   and paste long text.
 - Improved the issue that the network functinon of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 become
   unavailable by receiving Jumbo Frame Packet from Management LAN port.
 - Fixed the issue that BMC owner's events are not logged rarely after 
   BMC clear configuration by the BMC configuration Utility.
 - Supported Java 7 for web server functions of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
 - Fixed the issue that the cursor of a Linux text mode is not displayed 
   on the remote KVM console of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.

2012/10/01 BMCFW Revision 00.09, SDR Revision 00.03
 - Supported Widows Server 2012 (DCMI).
 - Improved the issue that active directry user who belongs multiple group may
   be aborted to log in EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
 - Improved the internal user configuration for  EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 to be
   disabled to change.
 - Supported the Express5800/E110d-M Japan model. (SDR)
 - Improved the Power Redundancy Sensor. (SDR)
