1. About the firmware

This BMC Firmware update module (hereinafter called "this software") supports
the following functional enhancement in the Express5800/R320a-M4 and R320a-E4 models.

  - A flash memory on the CPU/IO module might be broken by exceeding limitations of
the number of times to write. It depends on software application's behavior.
A system cannot start up after system power off and on if flash memory is broken.

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and
follow the procedure for successful update. Your system may be damaged and fail
to operate normally if an unplanned event (for example, power blackout or cutoff,
lightening, and noise) happens during update.
In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your expense.

  - After updated this software, your system requires to shutdown and remove/
    insert an AC power cable.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Server models for update

This software is available for users who use the following models with
    BMC firmware revisions.

  - Models to update:
      Express5800/R320a-M4@(N8800-161)
      Express5800/R320a-E4@(N8800-155/168/155L)

  - BMC firmware revision to update:
      Less than 03.20

Note:
  - If BMC firmware revision is later than the above, update is not required
(The latest revision includes the functions to be added by this software).

 - How to confirm BMC Firmware revision:

    (1) Run ft server Utility
        (Start->All programs->NEC ESMPRO Agent->ft server utility)

    (2) Select [Firmware] in [BMC] tree and confirm BMC Firmware revision.

        < example >
        ID 10/120 : Runtime=03.16 Boot=00.00 Pia=01.05 Sdr=01.03
        ID 11/120 : Runtime=03.16 Boot=00.00 Pia=01.05 Sdr=01.03

        Memo:
        - 'ID 10/120' in the above is BMC revision of CPU/IO module#0.
'ID 11/120' in the above is BMC revision of CPU/IO module#1.

3. Update procedures

  3-1. Preparation of Update

    (1) Login with account of administrator authority.

    (2) Terminate all the running application.

    (3) Make sure that the system is under duplex condition before updated.
Check the System FT LED on front of chassis illuminates green.

    (4) Download a zipped software and unzip the file into any directory of hard disk.

  3-2. Update procedure

  - Update the firmware by using the ft server utility.

    (1) Run ft server Utility
        (Start->All programs->NEC ESMPRO Agent->ft server utility)

    (2) Select [Firmware] in [BMC] tree and reconfirm BMC Firmware revision.
Then click [Firmware] button. [Firmware Update] dialog box appears.

    (3) Click [Browse] button and enter a directory name stored the new firmware
        (bmc_b00.00r03.20p01.05s01.03.bin).
Then click [Activate] button. [Verification] dialog box appears.

    (4) Click [OK] button.
        A firmware update starts.

  - Confirm the progress of firmware updating

    (1) Run ft server Utility
        (Start->All programs->NEC ESMPRO Agent->ft server utility)

    (2) Select [Firmware] of [BMC] tree and confirm Status.
Refresh the current status by push [F5] key or [View]->[Update] on
        menu bar.

BMC Firmware revision on ft server utility shows "Version=Unknown"
        while system is updating firmware.

        < example >
        ID 10/120 : Runtime=03.16 Boot=00.00 Pia=01.05 Sdr=01.03
        ID 11/120 : Version=Unknown

        Memo:
        - In the above example, BMC firmware of CPU/IO module#1 is
          being updated.

An update process will take approximately 30 minutes.

    (3) When update process is completed, Status shows 'Duplex, Duplex'.

  - Confirm the completed update process

    (1) Run ft server Utility
        (Start->All programs->NEC ESMPRO Agent->ft server utility)

    (2) Select [Firmware] on [BMC] tree and confirm firmware as follows.

        ID 10/120 : Runtime=03.20 Boot=00.00 Pia=01.05 Sdr=01.03
        ID 11/120 : Runtime=03.20 Boot=00.00 Pia=01.05 Sdr=01.03

    (3) Make sure again that your System is under duplex condition after updated.
Check the System FT LED on front of the system illuminates green.

  - System shutdown

    (1) Exit ft server Utility.

    (2) Shutdown the system.

        Notes:
        - If "Enable automatic module start" setting in the ft server Utility
([FT Server] ->[General]) is disabled, the PCI module starts and
the CPU module does not start automatically. In this case, it is necessary
to start up the CPU module manually after your system restarts.

    (3) Make sure the System Power LED goes off. And then removes the both
AC power cables of your system.

  - System starting

    (1) Wait at least 30 seconds after removing the both AC power cables.
At first, insert the AC power cable to CPU/IO module #0.
Then, insert to CPU/IO module #1.

    (2) Check a primary LED of CPU/IO module #0 illuminates green.

    (3) Push "Power switch" and start your system.

  - Confirm duplex condition

   (1) After your system starts up, wait a while until becoming duplex
condition automatically. And then check System FT LED on front of
        chassis illuminates green.

        Notes:
       - If "Enable automatic module start" setting in the ft server Utility
([FT Server] ->[General]) is disabled, the PCI module starts and
the CPU module does not start automatically. In this case, it is necessary
to start up the CPU module manually after your system restarts.
