1.  About the software

The NEC Express5800/B120d-h, NEC Express5800/B120d BMC firmware update
module ("the software") supports the following functional enhancement. :

 - Improved to preserve contents of the web browser display for alert configurations 
   by EXPRESSSCOPE Profile Key when a main board is replaced.
 - Update online help on Web Console.
 - Update OSS license on Web Console.
 - Changed the encrypted communication not to use SSL v3.0.
 - Changed the signing algorithm of SSL server Certificate from SHA-1 to SHA-2.
 - Modified to prohibit string which contains " ' " or "#" in some configurations  by web browser.
 - Added the usable character "+" to the SMTP Server Setting in Mail Alert via a web browser.
 - Modified to allow string which contains "-" or "_" in community name of SNMP alert configuration 
   by web browser.
 - Supported new sensor offset of OS Boot Events for System Event Log(SEL) viewer on Web console and 
   Mail Alert.
 - Improved to BIOS POST Error (C010/C020/C103/C104) during use Remote KVM on the POST just after 
   AC power is supplied.
 - Modified to close unused port(TCP/UDP port 427).
 - Updated the OpenSSL to 1.0.1t base.

  Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow the procedure for
    successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is powered off due to an unplanned event
    during update (for example, power blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be
    damaged and fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your
    expense.
  - This software does not support virtualization environment.
  - This software does not support to update the BMC firmware by Remote Media
    on EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
  - Please set "Disable Remote Media USB Ports" of BIOS Setting to
    [Disabled] during update. Please refer to the maintenance guide for details.
  - If you use ESMPRO(R) ExpressUpdate function, [ 2.  Models and software revisions for update ] and
    [ 3.  Installation procedures ] are processed automatically. Please refer to [ 4.  Notes ].


2.  Models and software revisions for update 

Users who use the following server models and  BMC firmware versions need update:

 - Models to update: 

     NEC Express5800/B120d-h
     NEC Express5800/B120d

 - BMC firmware versions to update:

                        BMC Firmware Revision: 01.04
                        BMC Firmware Revision: 00.16
                        BMC Firmware Revision: 00.14
                        BMC Firmware Revision: 00.13
                        BMC Firmware Revision: 00.11
                        BMC Firmware Revision: 00.10

NOTE:
If your BMC firmware version is later than the above, you do not require the update(the latest versions
already include the functions to be added by the software).

 - How to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

     Please make sure to confirm proper BMC Firmware version by any of the following means.

   - By ESRAS Utility, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Run the ESRAS Utility.
(2)  Select the [Intelligent Platform Management Interface] sub menu.
(3)  Select the [Management controller information] sub menu.
(4)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctrl] sub menu.
(5)  The BMC firmware versions of your system will be displayed.

   - By BIOS Setup, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Power on the system.
(2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS Setup Menu.

                Press <F2> SETUP, <F4> ROM Utility, <F12> Network

(3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
(4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
(5)  The software versions of your system will be displayed. 
(6)  After confirmation of the software versions, press the ESC key and exit the [System Management] sub
     menu. 
(7)  Move the cursor to [Save&Exit], using the arrow keys. 
(8)  Select [Discard Changes and Exit], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 

   - By ESMPRO Manager Ver.5, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Run ESMPRO Manager Ver.5.
(2)  After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab.
(3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.
(4)  Select the [MC(Management Controller) Information] sub menu.
(5)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
(6)  The BMC firmware version of your system will be displayed.

    - By EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

(1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
(2)  Please check "BMC Firmware Revision" at Server Information.


3.  Installation procedures

  3-1. Preparation for the software
   If your system can access the update module on the web, you may go to
    "3-2. BMC Firmware updating procedure".

  - Prepare a CD-R or a USB HDD for the update BMC firmware.

  - How to copy the CD-R or the USB HDD:

    (1) Download the update module, extract it to a desired directory.
    (2) Copy the directory to a CD-R or a USB HDD.
    (3) Delete the directory.

  3-2. BMC Firmware updating procedure

    Please update by following procedure.
    To close all running applications are recommended.
    If you skip "3-1. Preparation for the software", please go to "(3) Open the terminal".

  - How to update BMC firmware:

    (1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive or USB HDD on USB Port of your system if necessary.
    (2) Download or copy the update module to a desired directory.
    (3) Open the terminal.
        - Move to the directory.
        - Enter following command for the update BMC firmware.

              ./bmcup.sh

    (4) The following message is displayed.

         ####################################################
         #                                                  #
         #  Starting BMCFW update.                          #
         #  Please close all the applications.              #
         #                                                  #
         ####################################################

    (5) Close all unnecessaly applications running on the operating system,
        close the web browser and the ssh client connecting to EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3,
        and press <Enter> key to start updating procedure.
        (It takes about 8 minutes.)

        Attention: BMC Reset will be performed before BMC firmware updating.
                   The connections with Web browser and SSH client will be broken
                   when BMC Reset is performed.

    (6) After completing update successfully, the following message is displayed.

            BMCFW update is complete !!

    (7) Close the terminal.

    (8) Confirm that the BMC firmware Revision has been updated to the version listed below by any of
        the means described at "How to confirm your BMC Firmware version".

                          BMC Firmware Revision  :  01.05


4.  Notes

  4-1.Notes after updating BMC firmware:

    (1) Logout all web browser on your system.
    (2) Login the web browser on your system if necessary.
        (You need to apply Java 2 Standard Edition Runtime Environment 6.0 or later for a Management PC.)


  4-2.Error message for updating BMC firmware

    During updating BMC Firmware, following message might be displayed.

  - BMCFW update was failed.
    
    Please refer to the following messages.

    C4  = The image file does not support this machine.

       - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
       - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware version.

    C1  = Invalid parameter.
    C2  = Failed to image file load.
    C3  = The image file is corrupted.
    C5  = The image file is bigger than flash rom.
    C6  = Update tool does not support this firmware.
    C19 = File open error. (ExUpInfo.xml)
    C20 = Version info. Not exist. (ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
    C21 = Timeout was generated.
         
       - Cause : The update module may be broken.
       - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.

    C7  = Error while establishing the session.

       - Cause : Communication error occurred between BMC and Update tool.
       - Answer: Please try following steps.
                 1. Please remove external USB storage devices, such as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, from the
                    system in case that these devices are connected.
                 2. Please reset BMC by the ID/BMC RESET Switch on the server and wait for a while.
                    And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 3. If there is the same failure at step 2,
                    Please Confirm that "Disable Remote Media USB Ports" of BIOS Setting is [Disabled].
                    If "Disable Remote Media USB Ports" of BIOS Setting is [Enabled],
                    set to [Disabled] and update the BMC firmware again.
                    Regarding BIOS setting please refer to the maintenance guide for details.
                 4. If there is the same failure at step 3 , please use BMC firmware update module
                    for offline.
                 If update tool detects the same error in spite of above workaround, call the
                 maintenance service.

    C8  = IPMI command error. (Get Device ID)
    C9  = IPMI command error. (Get FW Info)
    C10 = IPMI command error. (Enter FW Update)
    C11 = IPMI command error. (Upload FW Image)
    C12 = IPMI command error. (Get FW Update Status)
    C13 = IPMI command error. (Check FW Image)
    C14 = IPMI command error. (Exec FW Update)
    C15 = Update status error. (Enter FW Update)
    C16 = Update status error. (Upload FW Image)
    C17 = Update status error. (Check FW Image)
    C18 = Firmware update error.

       - Cause : The updating BMC firmware was failed.
       - Answer: Please run the software again after doing (1) or (2).
                 If there is the failure again after doing (2), please call the maintenance service.
                 (1) Reset BMC by the ID/BMC RESET Switch on the server and wait for a while.
                 (2) Remove the server from the Blade Enclosure.
                     After more than 30 seconds, insert the server into the Blade Enclosure.

  - IPMIDriver is not found.
       - Cause : The software could not found IPMI driver.
       - Answer: Please confirm whether IPMI driver is installed.

  - IPMI Command Error !!
  - Completion Code Error !!
       - Cause : The command response was incorrect.
       - Answer: Please run the software again after doing (1) or (2).
                 If there is the failure again after doing (2), please call the maintenance service.
                 (1) Reset BMC by the ID/BMC RESET Switch on the server and wait for a while.
                 (2) Remove the server from the Blade Enclosure.
                     After more than 30 seconds, insert the server into the Blade Enclosure.


  4-3.Messages during updating BMC firmware
    There are cases where messages about SCSI Devices will be displayed during
    updating BMC firmware. It has no problem.

2015/6/26  BMCFW Revision 01.04

 - Enhanced the automatic recovery feature of hardware monitoring function
   under high load.
 - Fixed the issue that the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" button on the Remote KVM will
   no longer function after pressing the "Ctrl" button and the "Alt" button
   of the Remote KVM and any physical keyboard.
 - Added the description of the "Help" menu in EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3
   that "Enable HTTP1.1" is the necessary setting of web browser.
 - Improved possible performance deterioration of the Remote KVM console
   with the host system that doesn't support mouse device.
 - Fixed the issue that the BMC LAN is not available when invalid DNS Server Address
   is set to the BMC.
 - Improved Web server function of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 and changed the description
   of the online help.
 - Changed to configure IPMI authentication type same as ESMPRO/SM setting
   when the network configuration is set by web browser or BMC Configuration Tool.
 - Fixed the issue that the remote management feature may be unavailable
   in network environment which causes packet loss frequently.
 - Applied the workaround that the CPU usage of the kipmi0 kernel thread goes to 100%
   when BMC is reset in the following environment.
    - The operating system is RHEL 6.4 and the Open IPMI driver is installed.
    - The operating system is RHEL 6.x older than RHEL 6.4, the Open IPMI driver
      is installed and BIOS setting of "BMC IRQ" is set to "Disabled".

2013/8/30  BMCFW Revision 00.16

 - Changed update procedures and notes.
   The firmware image is same as 2013/5/31.

2013/5/31  BMCFW Revision 00.16

 - Support video record for the remote KVM console of the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
 - Support Internet Explorer 9 for EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
 - Support System BIOS setting for Backup/Restore.
 - Support the Access Information to log the following event. 
    Clear the Access Information.
    Clear the SEL."
 - Fixed the issue that the ESMPRO/SM can not detect the BMC depending on the network
   environment.
 - Fixed the issue that BMC has the potential to stall by using remote KVM function 
   after illegal BMC reset that will be caused by keeping to supply power to the server 
   over half year.
   (Without using remote KVM function, BMC will not stall, only be reset.)
   BMC reset by the BMC reset button, EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 Web server, and Command Line
   Interface, etc... doesn't occur this issue."
 - Fixed the issue that some sensor information is not displayed correctly in WS-Management
   feature.
 - Fixed the issue that the revision information of BMC firmware does not displayed when
   showing the information of "/ admin1/sp1/swid1" from the command line interface.
 - Added a new display resolution supported by the latest display driver.
   (This item is added at the release notes of BMCFW Revision 01.04.)

The following changes apply to the BMC Firmware Revision 00.10, 00.11 or 00.13.
These were applied at BMC Firmware Revision 00.14.

 - Added "Mezzanine Card Voltage(Monitoring Abnormal State)" to alert level
   setting.
 - Fixed the issue that the retrying of SNMP alerting is only done to Alert 
   Receiver 1 in case Alert Progress setting is configured as One Alert Receiver.
 - Fixed the issue that BMC rarely become unable to log any events which are 
   detected by BMC after resetting BMC by BMC Configuration.
 - Fixed the issue that Remote KVM Console of the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 cannot 
   display the cursor of the Linux in text mode.
 - Fixed the issue that the encryption does not work on JRE7 environment even 
   when Encryption of Remote KVM console in System Operation Configuration is 
   enabled.

2012/12/26 BMCFW Revision 00.13

  - NEC Express5800/B120d is added to "Models to update".

2012/12/1  BMCFW Revision 00.13   "Models to update" is only NEC Express5800/B120d-h

  - Changed to reboot management LAN port if management LAN port does not receive any packet for a
    certain period of time.
  - Improved the issue that active directory user who belongs multiple group may be aborted to log in
    EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
  - Improved the issue that DHCP configuration of the management LAN is changed from disable to enable
    when the Server Blade mounted on the Blade Enclosure.
  - Improve the character-based remote console via command line interface  of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3
    to be enabled to accept mass input for example to copy and paste long text.
  - Improved the issue that the network function of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 become unavailable by
    receiving Jumbo Frame Packet from Management LAN port.

  - Fixed the issue that the event message described as below is logged 
    with status LED red blinking rarely.
