1.  About the software
 The Express5800/R120d-1E, Express5800/R120d-2E ME Firmware update module
 ("the software") supports the following functional enhancement.

 - Fixed the problem state of the mounted Power Supply Unit rerely misrecognized 
   as non-mounted.
 - Fixed the problem CPU frequency rarely decrease and keep in high work load 
   state.

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow 
    the procedure for successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is 
    powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power 
    blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and 
    fails to operate normally. In this case, any remedial measures shall be 
    taken at your expense.

2.  Models and software versions for update 
Users who use the following server models and ME Firmware version need update:
 - Models to update: 
     1. Express5800/R120d-1E
     2. Express5800/R120d-2E

 - ME Firmware version to update:
         ME Version: 2.1.5.73

NOTE:
If your ME version are later than the above, you do not require the update
(the latest versions already include the functions to be added by the software).

2-1. How to confirm your ME Firmware version:

- By ESRAS Utility of ESMPRO(R)ServerAgent to confirm your ME version:

 (1)  Run the ESRAS Utility.
 (2)  Select the [Intelligent Platform Management Interface] sub menu.
 (3)  Select the [Management controller information] sub menu.
 (5)  Select the [NodeManager Ctlr] sub menu.
 (6)  Confirm the [Firmware Revision] and [Dump].
      If indicated value of [Firmware Revision] is 02.17,
         indicated value of [Dump] Byte13 is 32, Byte14 is 80,
      it means ME version of your system is 2.1.7.328.


- By BIOS Setup to confirm your ME version:

 (1)  Power on the system.
 (2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
      Setup Menu. 
                        "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"
 
 (3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
 (4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
 (5)  The software revisions of your system will be displayed. 
 
 (6)  After confirmation of the software revisions, press the ESC key and exit 
      the [System Management] sub menu. 
 (7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
 (8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 


- By NEC ESMPRO Manager to confirm your ME version:

 (1)  Run NEC ESMPRO Manager on remote PC.
 (2)  After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab.
 (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.
 (4)  Select the [Management Controller Information] sub menu.
 (5)  Select the [NodeManager Ctlr] sub menu.
 (6)  Confirm the [Firmware Revision] and [Dump].
      If indicated value of [Firmware Revision] is 02.17,
         indicated value of [Dump] Byte13 is 32, Byte14 is 80,
      it means ME version of your system is 2.1.7.328.


- By EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function to confirm your ME version:

 (1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function.
 (2)  Select the [System] sub menu.
 (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.
 (4)  Select the [MC] sub menu.
 (5)  Select the [NodeManager Ctlr] sub menu.
 (6)  Confirm the [Firmware Revision] and [Dump].
      If indicated value of [Firmware Revision] is 02.17,
         indicated value of [Dump] Byte13 is 32, Byte14 is 80,
      it means ME version of your system is 2.1.7.328.

3.  Update procedures

- Prepare a CD-R for the update ME Firmware.

- How to copy the install CD-R:

(1) Download the update module to a desired directory.
(2) Extract the downloaded module to a desired directory.
(3) The software and its installation procedures (readme file) will be
    extracted to that specified folder.
    The folder has "SD328W.iso" and "README_EN.TXT".
(4) Write the ISO image file to a CD-R by any CD writing program.
(5) Mark the Equipment model name and ME version on the media.

- How to update ME Firmware:

(1) Insert the CD-R into the optical disk drive of your system, 
    and boot the system from the CD-R.
(2) After boot complete, 
    Run the ME firmware update program automatically.
    Then system will turn off the power once,
    and turn on the power again about 30sec or 2minute later automatically.
(3) The following messages are displayed at POST when the second time starts.
    This is expected behavior no need to worry.
      "WARNING: C501 ME is in Recovery Mode."
(4) The system will boot from the CD-R again.
(5) After boot complete, 
    Automatically update ME Firmware using the CD-R(about 2minute).
    DO NOT turn off the power until the complete.
(6) After the normal complete, the following messages are displayed.
      "ME FW/Descriptor Update was succeeded."
      "Please remove the CD, then press ENTER key to power off."
    Eject the CD-R and press the Enter key.
    The system will turn off the power once,
    and turn on the power again about 30sec or 2minute later automatically.
(7) Enter to BIOS SETUP by pressing the <F2> key and 
    confirm that the ME Version and Descriptor Revision 
    has been updated to the version listed below.
      ME Version          : 2.1.7.328
      Descriptor Revision : 00070300

4.  Note

 4-1. Note for updating ME Firmware

      (1) Check the boot sequence of your system in order to boot 
          the disk drive of the CD-R at first.

 4-4.During updating ME Firmware, following message will display at POST screen.
     This is expected behavior no need to worry.
      "WARNING: C501 ME is in Recovery Mode."

 4-5.If ECO setting exists, it will be initialized with update.
     Please backup the setting before update,
     then restore the setting after update.

How to backup and restore ECO setting:

- By NEC ESMPRO Manager, to backup and restore your ECO setting:
    If you have installed ESMPRO in remote environment and using it,
    you can backup and restore ECO setting by following way.
      Select Server name you want to backup/restore,
      [setting]->[backup/restore]->[backup]->[BMC setting-ECO]
      then carry out backup.
      Regarding to restore, choose [setting]->[backup/restore]->[restore]
      then carry out restore "eco.json".

- By EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3, to backup and restore your ECO setting:
    If you have installed EXPRESSSCOPE Engine in remote environment and using it,
    you can backup and restore ECO setting by following way.
      Select [setting]->[backup/restore]->[backup]
      then carry out backup [ECO(eco.json].
      Regarding to restore, choose [setting]->[backup/restore]->[restore]
      then carry out restore "eco.json".

- By BMC Configuration, to backup and restore your ECO setting : Windows/LinuxOS
    If you have installed BMC Configuration and using it,
    you can backup and restore ECO setting by following way.
      Click the  "Backup BMC Configuration" tab.
      Select ECO check box as the "back up target" and click [OK],
      then carry out backup ECO setting.
      Regarding to restore, Click the  "Restore BMC Configuration" tab.
      Select ECO check box as the "Restore target" and click [OK],
      then carry out restore "eco.json".

- By Off-Line Tool, to confirm and re-set your ECO setting:
    Off-Line Tool has no function to backup and restore ECO setting.
    it is needed to perform confirmation, record, re-setting by following way.
      Power on the system.
      POST message will be displayed under a screen.
      Press <F4> key to start Off-line Tool MENU according to POST message.
      Select [BMC Configuration]->[ECO]->[Configuration]
      then perform confirmation, record ECO setting.
      Regarding to restore, perform re-setting by same menu.

 4-6.If "Suspended Period" is set from NEC ESMPRO/ServerManager,
     the setting will be initialized with update.
     If you need to keep "Suspended Period setting",
     perform confirmation, record, re-setting by following way.
       Select Server name you want to confirm setting,
       [Remote Control]->[Power Management]->[ECO setting]->[Suspended Period setting]
       then perform confirmation, record Suspended Period setting before update if needed.
       Then restore the setting after update.
       Regarding to restore, perform re-setting by same menu after update.
