1.  About the software

The NEC Express5800/B120f RAID Controller Firmware Update Module
("the software") supports the following functional enhancement. :

 - Fixed the issue that the POST infrequently stalls
   after rebooting the system,
   which causes an IPMI event "Watchdog Timer Expired".

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully
    and follow the procedure for successful update.
    Should your system malfunctions or is powered off due
    to an unplanned event during update (for example, power blackout
    or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged
    and fails to operate normally.
    In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your expense.


2.  Models and software revisions for update 

Users who use the following server models
and RAID controller firmware versions need update:

 - Models to update: 
     NEC Express5800/B120f

 - RAID controller firmware versions to update:
     4.220.81-3683
     4.220.81-4590

NOTE: If your RAID controller firmware version is later than the above,
      you do not require the update (the latest versions
      already include the functions to be added by the software).

How to confirm your RAID controller firmware version:

  <Using the configuration utility "Ctrl-R">
   "Ctrl-R" is the configuration utility of this RAID controller
   used when the boot mode of the server is "Legacy Mode".
   For more information on how to use "Ctrl-R",
   please refer to "Maintenance Guide".
   1) Power on the server.
      Press <Ctrl> + <R> when the following message appears
      on the POST screen. "Ctrl-R" starts up.

        Press <Ctrl> <R> to Run MegaRAID Configuration Utility

   2) Select the "Properties" menu by pressing <Ctrl> + <N>.
   3) Check "FW Version".
   4) Press the <ESC> key, and the following message is displayed.
      To exit the "Ctrl-R", place the cursor on "OK" and press the <Enter> key.

        Are you sure you want to exit?

   5) After exiting the "Ctrl-R", the following message is displayed.
      Press <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Del> to restart the server.

        ** Press Control+Alt+Delete to reboot **

  <Using the configuration utility "HII">
   "HII" is the configuration utility of this RAID controller
   used when the boot mode of the server is "UEFI Mode".
   For more information on how to use "HII", please refer to "Maintenance Guide".
   1) Power on the server.
      Press the <F2> key when the following message appears on the POST screen.
      The BIOS Setup Menu is displayed after the POST screen.

        Press <F2> SETUP

   2) Select the "Advanced" tag,
      select the "UEFI Driver Configuration", and press the <Enter> key.
   3) Select the "LSI MegaRAID <LSI SAS 3008 iMR RoMB> Configuration Utility",
      and press the <Enter> key.
   4) Select the "Controller Management", and press the <Enter> key.
   5) Check "Firmware Version".
   6) Press the <ESC> key to return to top menu.
   7) Select the "Save & Exit" tag, and select the "Discard Changes and Exit".
   8) Press the <Enter> key, and the following message is displayed.
      To exit the setup, place a cursor on "Yes", and press the <Enter> key.
      The server restarts.

  <Using Universal RAID Utility (RAID Viewer)>
   For more information on how to use Universal RAID Utility,
   refer to "Universal RAID Utility User's Guide".
   1) Start RAID Viewer.
   2) Click the RAID Controller displayed on the Tree View.
   3) Click [Properties] of the [File] menu.
   4) Select the [General] tab in the [RAID Controller Properties] dialog box
      and check "Firmware Version".

  <Using Universal RAID Utility (raidcmd)>
   For more information on how to use Universal RAID Utility,
   please refer to "Universal RAID Utility User's Guide".
   1) Open a console window (Ex. command prompt).
   2) Run the following command.

      # raidcmd property -tg=rc -c=C <ENTER>
      *note*
       The "C" indicates the RAID Controller number.

   3) The RAID Controller firmware version of your system will be displayed.


3.  User License Agreement

NEC Corporation ("NEC") grants you the right to use the software program ("Software") under the terms
and conditions of this Agreement only in the country in which you acquired the Software. You shall
agree to all provisions of this Agreement and assume responsibility for selection, installation, use 
and effect of the Software purchased for your desired effect.

The Software uses the software ("GPL Module") granted by GNU General Public License("GPL) or GNU 
Lesser General Public License("LGPL"). This Agreement does not cover GPL Module.

The Software includes the following GPL Module and LGPL Module.

         <GPL Module>
           KERNEL.SYS
           COMMAND.COM
           HIMEM.EXE
           FIND.COM

You can distribute or change the module based on the conditions of GPL or LGPL or any later Version,
stipulated by Free Software Foundation. The module is supposed to be useful, however, NEC does not 
guarantee it.
In addition, NEC does not release any copyright of GPL Module, designed by NEC.

   The Free Software Foundation (FSF) is a non-profit corporation to support the spread of
   the free software.
   You need to refer to The Free Software Foundation ( http://www.fsf.org/ )for details of
   GNU General Public License Version 2 and GNU Lesser General Public License.

You shall agree that NEC does not answer to any questions regarding the GPL Module.
By using the Software including GPL Module, you will be bounded by the terms stipulated in GPL and LGPL.
 
The following Agreement is applicable to the Software excluding GPL Module aforesaid.

<Agreement for the Software>

1. Terms 
1.1 This Agreement shall come into force on the date of your receipt of the Software.
1.2 You may terminate the license granted hereunder by notifying us in writing at least one month
    prior to the desired termination date.
1.3 NEC may terminate the license granted you hereunder at any time if you fail to comply with any
    terms and conditions of this Agreement. 
1.4 The license to the Software shall remain in force until the license is terminated on the date
    set forth hereunder. 
1.5 Upon termination of the license, other rights granted you hereunder shall also be terminated.
    You must destroy or dispose of the Software, any copies of the Software and manual and other
    materials provided with the Software. 

2. Copyright 
2.1 The Software shall solely be used in the NEC Express5800 servers.
2.2 NEC grants you the right to use the Software only in the country in which you acquired the 
    Software in accordance with the conditions of the preceding paragraph.

3. Copying, altering, and combining of the Software
3.1 You may only make one copy of the Software solely for a backup purpose,
    provided, however, that the copy of the Software is loaded into permanent memory of the system.
    You may store the Software solely to prevent damages or loss of the memory media.
3.2 You shall place the copyright notice and other legends on each copy of the Software.
3.3 You may not use, copy, alter, combine, publish, reproduce the Software over the Internet, or
    otherwise dispose of the Software except as provided in this Agreement. 
3.4 You may not copy, publish the manual or other related documentation provided with the Software,
    or reproduce such manual and documentation over the Internet.
3.5 No intangible property right to the Software shall be transferred to you.

4. Transfer
4.1 You may assign your rights granted hereunder to a third party only if all conditions below are
    satisfied: 
    a. You shall assign and shall not retain this Agreement, the Software, allcopies of the
    Software, or the manual or other related documentation provided with the Software. 
    b. The transferee agrees to this Agreement.
4.2 You shall not sublicense, assign, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the Software or the right of
    use to any third party except as provided herein.

5. Reverse compile
   You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise disassemble the Software.

6. Limitation of warranties
6.1 The Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. In no event shall NEC be liable
    with respect to any claim by you on account of or arising out of the use of the Software.
6.2 Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding paragraph, in case NEC makes any bug-fix version
    to the Software, NEC will, at its expense, furnish you with such bug-fix version, update version,
    or information in relation to such bug-fix or update version both in the source code form and
    object code form, and such bug-fix version or update version shall be considered as the licensed
    Software.

7. No liability 
    In no event shall NEC be liable for any indirect or consequential damages or loss of profit or 
    damages based on any third party claim, even if NEC has been advised of the possibility of such
    damages. 


4.  Installation procedures

- Prepare a CD-R for the update RAID controller firmware.

- How to copy the install CD-R:

(1) Download the update module to a desired directory.
(2) Extract the downloaded module to a desired directory.
(3) The software and its installation procedures (readme file)
    will be extracted to that specified folder.
(4) Write the ISO image file to a CD-R by any CD writing program.

- How to update:

(1) If any HDD/SSD is installed to the server, power off the server
    and remove all HDDs/SSDs.

    * You must install HDD/SSD at step (12).
      Record the slot number of HDD/SSD before removing.

(2) Power on the server.
    Press the <F2> key when the following message appears
    on the POST screen.
    The BIOS Setup Menu is displayed after the POST screen.

      Press <F2> SETUP

(3) Change the following BIOS settings.

    * You must restore BIOS settings at step (11).
      Record the BIOS settings before change.

    - Select the menu [Advanced] -> [PCI Configuration] ->
      [PCI Device Controller and Option ROM Settings],
      and set [SAS Option ROM Scan] to [Enabled].

    - Select the menu [Advanced] -> [Storage Configuration],
      and set [SAS Controller] to [Enabled].

    - Select the menu [Boot], and set [Boot Mode] to [Legacy].

    - Select the menu [Boot], and change [Boot Option Priorities]
      as booting from the install CD-R.

(4) Select the "Save & Exit" tag, and select the "Save Changes and Exit".

(5) Boot the server from the install CD-R.
    After a while, the following message appears.

(6) Press the <1> key and press the <Enter> key to update firmware.

(7) After the complete, the following message appears.
    Power off the server by pressing the POWER switch.

(8) Boot the server again from the install CD-R.

(9) After a while, the following message appears.
    Confirm that "Current Status FW Version" is "4.220.81-4791".

(10) Eject the CD-R, and power off the server by pressing the POWER switch.

(11) If you changed the BIOS settings at step (3), restore to
     the original settings.

(12) If you removed HDD/SSD at step (1), power off the server
     and then install HDD/SSD.


5.  Notes

Error message of the install CD-R.

  (a) message: ***ERROR*** This server is not Express5800/B120f.
      meaning: Your server model is not included
               in the list in chapter 2.
      measure: Please confirm your server model.

  (b) message: ***ERROR*** Can not access to the RAID controller.
      meaning: Can not access to the RAID controller.
      measure: Confirm BIOS settings at "How to update (3)".
               Please update again from "How to update (4)".
               If the error occurred again,
               please contact your sales representative.

  (c) message: ***ERROR*** FW Update Failed.
      meaning: Firmware update failed.
      measure: Confirm BIOS settings at "How to update (3)".
               Please update again from "How to update (4)".
               If the error occurred again,
               please contact your sales representative.
