1.  About the software

  The Express5800/R120d-1M, Express5800/R120d-2M, Express5800/R120e-1M, Express5800/R120e-2M
  BMC firmware and SDR update module ("the software") supports the following functional enhancement
  in the Express5800/R120d-1M, Express5800/R120d-2M, Express5800/R120e-1M, Express5800/R120e-2M models:

   - Improved to preserve contents of the web browser display for alert configurations 
     by EXPRESSSCOPE Profile Key when a motherboard is replaced.
   - Update online help on Web Console.
   - Update OSS license on Web Console.
   - Changed the encrypted communication not to use SSL v3.0.
   - Changed the signing algorithm of SSL server Certificate from SHA-1 to SHA-2.
   - Modified to prohibit string which contains " ' " or "#" in some configurations  by web browser.
   - Added the usable character "+" to the SMTP Server Setting in Mail Alert via a web browser.
   - Modified to allow string which contains "-" or "_" in community name of SNMP alert configuration 
     by web browser.
   - Supported new sensor offset of OS Boot Events for System Event Log(SEL) viewer on Web console and 
     Mail Alert.
   - Improved to BIOS POST Error (C010/C020/C103/C104) during use Remote KVM on the POST just after 
     AC power is supplied.
   - Modified to close unused port(TCP/UDP port 427).
   - Updated the OpenSSL to 1.0.1t base.


  Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow the procedure for
    successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is powered off due to an unplanned event
    during update (for example, power blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be
    damaged and fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your
    expense.

   The following items are note for customers using the server which installed [N8115-04]
   Remote KVM and Media License

  - This software does not support to update the BMC firmware and SDR by Remote Media on
    EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.


2.  Models and software revisions for update 

  Users who use the following server models and BMC firmware revisions need update:
   - Models to update: 
     1. Express5800/R120d-1M
     2. Express5800/R120d-2M
     3. Express5800/R120e-1M
     4. Express5800/R120e-2M

   - BMC firmware and SDR revisions to update:

        - BMC firmware
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  00.13
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  00.14
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  00.16
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  00.17
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  00.18
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  00.20
                          BMC Firmware Revision:  01.02

        - SDR

  NOTE:
    If your BMC firmware revision is later than the above, you do not require the update
    (the latest revisions already include the functions to be added by the software).


   - How to confirm your BMC Firmware and SDR revision:

     Please make sure to confirm proper BMC Firmware and SDR revision by any of the following means.(*1)

     * How to confirm by the server which will be updated *

     - By ESRAS Utility, to confirm your BMC Firmware and SDR revision:

     (1)  Run the ESRAS Utility.
     (2)  Select the [Intelligent Platform Management Interface] sub menu.

     Confirmation of BMC Firmware revision

     (3)  Select the [Management controller information] sub menu.
     (4)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
     (5)  The BMC firmware revision of your system will be displayed.

     Confirmation of SDR revision

     (6)  Select the [Repository Information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
     (7)  The SDR revision of your system will be displayed.


     - By BIOS Setup, to confirm your BMC Firmware and SDR revision:

     (1)  Power on the system.
     (2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS Setup Menu.

                              "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

     (3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
     (4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
     (5)  The software revisions of your system will be displayed. 
     (6)  After confirmation of the software revisions, press the ESC key and exit the [System Management]
          sub menu.
     (7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
     (8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 


     * How to confirm by the remote access *

     - By ESMPRO Manager Ver.5/6, to confirm your BMC Firmware and SDR revision:

     (1)  Run ESMPRO Manager Ver.5/6.
     (2)  After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab.
     (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.

     Confirmation of BMC Firmware revision

     (4)  Select the [MC(Management Controller) Information] sub menu.
     (5)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
     (6)  The BMC firmware revision of your system will be displayed.

     Confirmation of SDR revision

     (7)  Select the [SDR-Management Information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
     (8)  The SDR revision of your system will be displayed.


     - By EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3, to confirm your BMC Firmware and SDR revision:

     (1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
     (2)  Select the [system] tab.
     (3)  Select the [IPMI information] sub menu.

     Confirmation of BMC Firmware revision

     (4)  Select the [MC] button and select [basbrd Mgmt Ctrl].
     (5)  Check [Firmware Revision].

     Confirmation of SDR revision

     (6)  Select the [SDR] button and select LAST Record ID / Record Type : OEMSDR
     (7)  Check [[OEM Dara] SDR Version].


3.  Installation procedures

  - Prepare a CD-R and a external DVD-ROM drive for the update BMC firmware and SDR.

  - How to make the install CD-R:

    (1) Download the update module to a desired directory.
    (2) Extract the downloaded module to a desired directory.
    (3) The software and its installation procedures (readme file) will be extracted to that specified
        folder. The folder has "B0105S011305B00645O.iso" and "READMEE.txt".
    (4) Write the ISO image file to a CD-R by any CD writing program.
    (5) Mark the BMC firmware and SDR revisions on the media.

  - How to update:

    (1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive of your system, and boot the system from the CD-R.
    (2) Automatically update BMC firmware and SDR using the CD-R, do not turn off the power until the
        complete.
    (3) After the complete, the following messages are displayed.

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.         

             Remove CD-R.
             Please press the <Enter> key...
    
    (4) Eject the CD-R and enter any key to reboot the system.
    (5) Confirm that the BMC firmware Revision has been updated to the revision listed below by any of
        the means described at (*1).

                          BMC Firmware Revision  :  01.05
                          SDR Revision           :  01.13


4.  Note

  4-1.Note after updating BMC firmware and SDR:

    (1) Logout all web browser on your system.
    (2) Login the web browser on your system if necessary.
        (You need to apply Java 2 Standard Edition Runtime Environment 5.0 or later for a Management PC.)

  4-2.Note for updating BMC firmware and SDR:

    (1) Check the boot sequence of your system in order to boot the disk drive of the CD-R at first.
    (2) When the following message appears, check the model and the BMC Firmware and SDR revision.

                              "Error, incorrect server platform found."

  4-3.Error message for updating BMC firmware

    During updating BMCFW, following message might be displayed.

            XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX................................ (*2)

             Error: BMCFW Update failed!!
            *******************************

    --- detailed information about (*2) ---

    (a) The image file does not support this machine.

       - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
       - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware revision.


    (b) Invalid parameter.
    (c) Failed to image file load.
    (d) The image file is corrupted.
    (e) The image file is bigger than flash rom.
    (f) Update tool does not support this firmware.
    (g) Timeout was generated.

       - Cause : The update module may be broken.
       - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.


    (h) Error while establishing the session.

       CASE1: This system with Fibre Channel Controller Card.
       - Cause : The updating BMC firmware was failed.
       - Answer: Please reset BMC after unplug the cable from 
                 Fibre Channel Controller Card and wait for a while.
                 And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.

       CASE2: This system without Fibre Channel Controller Card.
       - Cause : The updating BMC firmware was failed.
       - Answer: Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                 And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.


    (i) IPMI command error. (Get Device ID)
    (j) IPMI command error. (Get FW Info)
    (k) IPMI command error. (Enter FW Update)
    (l) IPMI command error. (Upload FW Image)
    (m) IPMI command error. (Get FW Update Status)
    (n) IPMI command error. (Check FW Image)
    (o) IPMI command error. (Exec FW Update)
    (p) Update status error. (Enter FW Update)
    (q) Update status error. (Upload FW Image)
    (r) Update status error. (Check FW Image)
    (s) Firmware update error.

       - Cause : The updating BMC firmware was failed.
       - Answer: Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                 And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.

  4-4 Error message for updating SDR

    During updating SDR, following message might be displayed.

            XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX................................ (*3)

            *****************************
             Error: SDR Update failed!!
            *****************************

    --- detailed information about (*3) ---

    (A) Error:====It is not a target machine of SDRupdate.
    (B) Error: Processor Check failed!!
    (C) Error: This Processor is Not Supported!!

       - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
       - Answer: Check the proper model(Processor) and the proper SDR revision.


    (D) Error: Optional HDD Cage Check failed!!

       - Cause : Checking HDD cage was failed.
       - Answer: Check the connection of the HDD cage.


    (E) Can't open IPMI driver.
    (F) This SDR data is not supported.(Not Found HWID in mchk_fil)

       - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
       - Answer: Check the proper model.


    (G) Illegal parameter format.

       - Cause : parameter is not correct.
       - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.


    (H) unsupported SparedSDR command on BMC.Or, the time-out is generated by a system high load.

       - Cause : This BMC Firmware does not support the SDR update function.
       - Answer: After updating BMC Firmware, then reboot the system and update SDR again. 


    (I) Timeout was generated.
    (J) Get Device ID Command Error.
    (K) insufficient memory.
    (L) SDR record read error from BMC.
    (M) failed to clear the SDR repository.
    (N) failed to receive BMC response, bad completion code.
    (O) IPMI command retry error.
    (P) failed to open IPMI Driver.
    (Q) failed to send IPMI command.
    (R) IPMI command error for Backup/GetSdrVersion.
    (S) Backup File I/O error.
    (T) SDR file does not match with what was programmed into memory.
    (U) SDR file unsuccessfully written.
    (V) It failed in retrying of MSDriver. A high load of the system is thought as a cause.

       - Cause : The updating BMC firmware was failed.
       - Answer: Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                 And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.



5.  Revision history

The contents of "2013/04/10" previous, Express5800/R120e-1M, Express5800/R120e-2M is not covered.

2016/12/01 BMCFW Revision 01.05, SDR Revision 01.13

   - Enhanced the automatic recovery feature of hardware monitoring function.
   - Improved possible deterioration in performance of remote KVM console with 
     host system that doesn't support mouse device.
   - Changed to configure IPMI authentication type same as ESMPRO/SM setting 
     when the network configuration is set by Web browser and BMC Configuration 
     Tool.
   - Improved to show warning message when launching Remote KVM if the keyboard 
     language of Remote KVM is different from that of client OS.
   - Improved to reflect the keyboard input of Remote KVM even when the client OS 
     is in Japanese input mode.
   - Improved the problem that the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" button on the Remote KVM will 
     no longer function after pressing the "Ctrl" and "Alt" button and inputting 
     any physical keyboard.
   - Added "Enable HTTP1.1" as the necessary setting of browser on the "Client 
     Environment" of "Help".

   - Added the function for agentless monitoring of onboard LAN ports.
   - Added a new display resolution supported by latest display driver.
   - Modified the SMTP client processing.
   - Support video record for the remote KVM console of the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
   - Support the Access Information to log the following event.
     - Clear the Access Information.
     - Clear the SEL.
   - Fixed the issue that SEL repository full setting is not initialized by BMC Initialization.
   - Fixed the issue that some sensor information is not displayed correctly in WS-Management

   - The workaround of an issue that the cpu usage of the kipmi0 kernel thread goes to 100%

     - The system uses RHEL 6.x older than RHEL 6.4 as the Operating System.
       The Operating System uses the Open IPMI driver.
       And you set the BMC IRQ to Disabled.
   - Fixed the issue that Mail and SNMP Alert settings are displayed as "disable"
     although these settings are enabled after the BMC Firmware is updated.
   - Fixed the issue that the BMC LAN is not available if invalid DNS Server Address is set to the BMC.
   - Added PSU_Status_Sensors to monitor STATUS_VOUT.
   - Fixed the issue that the system will be powerd off after power on when the system takes over 30 second
     for shutdown that caused by ShutdownSystem settiong of Aggressive Mode in ECO function.
   - Supported new models ( Express5800/R120e-1M, Express5800/R120e-2M ).(SDR)


2013/04/10 BMCFW Revision 00.20, SDR Revision 00.11
   - Fixed the issue that the ESMPRO/SM can not detect the BMC depending on the network environment.
   - Fixed the issue that BMC has the pottential to stall by using remote KVM function
     after illegal BMC reset that will be caused by keeping to supply power to the server
     over half year.
     (Without using remote KVM function, BMC will not stall, only be resetted.)
     BMC reset by the BMC reset button, EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 Web server,
     and Command Line Interface, etc... doesn't occur this issue.

   - Fixed the issue that the retrying of SNMP alerting is only done to Alert Receiver 1 in case Alert 
     Progress setting is configured as One Alert Receiver.
   - Fixed the issue that the encryption does not work on JRE7 environment even when Encryption of Remote 
     KVM console in System Operation Configuration is enabled.
   - Fixed the SSH public key authentication failure.

     to be enabled to accept mass input for example to copy and paste long text.
   - Improved the issue that the network function of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 become unavailable by
     receiving Jumbo Frame Packet from Management LAN port.
   - Improved the internal user configuration for  EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 to be disabled to change.
   - Improved cooling function to support N8103-152 RAID Controller (1GB,RAID0/1/5/6).(SDR)

   - Fixed the issue that the configuration of access log is not initialized even if the BMC is
     initialized by using the BMC configuration function.
   - Fixed the issue that old log might be rarely displayed by executing BMC Reset after clearing
     access log.
