1.  About the software

This BMC Firmware update module (hereinafter called "this software") supports 
the following functional enhancement in the NEC Express5800/E120e-M models:

 - Improved to preserve contents of the web browser display for alert 
   configurations by EXPRESSSCOPE Profile Key when a motherboard is replaced.
 - Update online help on Web Console.
 - Update OSS license on Web Console.
 - Changed the encrypted communication not to use SSL v3.0.
 - Changed the signing algorithm of SSL server Certificate from SHA-1 to SHA-2.
 - Modified to prohibit string which contains " ' " or "#" in some 
   configurations by web browser.
 - Added the usable character "+" to the SMTP Server Setting in Mail Alert via
   a web browser.
 - Modified to allow string which contains "-" or "_" in community name of SNMP 
   alert configuration by web browser.
 - Supported new sensor offset of OS Boot Events for System Event Log (SEL) 
   viewer on Web console and Mail Alert.
 - Improved to BIOS POST Error (C010/C020/C103/C104) during use Remote KVM on 
   the POST just after AC power is supplied.
 - Modified to close unused port(TCP/UDP port 427).
 - Updated the OpenSSL to 1.0.1t base.
 - Improved the problem that the STATUS LED incorrectly lights green when AC 
   power is not supplied to one of 2 power units.

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and 
    follow the procedure for successful update.  Should your system 
    malfunctions or is powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for
    example, power blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may 
    be damaged and fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial 
    measures shall be taken at your expense.

  - This software does not support virtualization environment.
  
  - To use for this software on Linux(R) OS environment, "OpenIPMI" package must
    have been installed and executed.
  
  - Before BMC firmware update, please make sure that a drive letter has been assigned 
    to the virtual CD/DVD drive on Windows OS if the Remote Media function of the 
    BMC firmware is enabled.
  
  - If you use ExpressUpdate function of NEC ESMPRO Manager , 
    [ 2.  Models and software revisions for update ] and 
    [ 3.  Update procedures ] are processed automatically.

2.  Models and software revisions for update 

 Users who use the following server models and BMC firmware revisions need update:
 - Models to update: 
        NEC Express5800/E120e-M
     
 - BMC firmware revision to update:
        BMC Firmware Revision: 01.03
        BMC Firmware Revision: 01.04
 
NOTE:
If your BMC firmware version is later than the above, you do not require the
update
(the latest versions already include the functions to be added by the software).

 - How to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

   * By ESRAS Utility for Windows OS, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

    (1) Run the rasutl program.
    (2) Select the [Intelligent Platform Management Interface] sub menu and 
        press the Enter key.
    (3) Select the [Management controller information] sub menu and press the 
        Enter key.
    (4) Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu and press the Enter key.
    (5) The BMC firmware versions of your system will be displayed.

   * By xrasutl for Linux OS, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:
 
     (1)  Run the xrasutil.
     (2)  Select the [Display the current IPMI information...] sub menu and press the Space key.
     (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu and press the Space key.
     (4)  Select the [Most Recent IPMI Data] sub menu and press the Space key.
     (5)  Select the [Management Controller Information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
     (6)  The BMC firmware version of your system will be displayed.
 
   * By BIOS Setup, to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

    (1) Power on the system.
    (2) When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
        Setup Menu. 
         "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"
    (3) Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
    (4) Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
    (5) The software versions of your system will be displayed. 
    (6) After confirmation of the software versions, press the ESC key and exit
        the [System Management] sub menu. 
    (7) Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
    (8) Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 

   * By ESMPRO Manager to confirm your BMC Firmware version:

    (1) Run ESMPRO Manager.
    (2) After selecting the server, select the [IPMI Information] sub menu and 
        press the Enter key. 
    (3) Select the [MC(Management Controller) Information] sub menu and press 
        the Enter key.
    (4) Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu and press the Enter key.
    (5) The BMC firmware version of your system will be displayed.

   * By EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3, to confirm your BMC version:

    (1) Run EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
    (2) Select the [System] sub menu and press the Enter key.
    (3) Select the [Summary] sub menu and press the Enter key.
    (4) The software versions of your system will be displayed.

3.  Update proceduress

3-1. Prepare
   If you could download and extract this software on the target model, 
   you may go to 3-2 or 3-3 "How to update".

(1) Download and extract the software to a desired directory of desired computer.
(2) Copy the directory and files to a CD-R or a USB HDD.
(3) Delete the directory on desired computer.
(4) Connect optical disk drive to USB conector of target model, and insert
    the CD-R into the optical disk drive.
    Or Connect USB HDD to USB connector of your target model.
(5) Copy the update module from the CD-R or the USB HDD to a desired directory
    of the target model.
 
3-2.  How to update  for Windows(R) OS :

(1) Run Command Prompt.
   1) Change directory into which you extracted the update module.
   2) Run following comamnd to BMC Firmware update.
            BMCUP.BAT
           
     (You should run Command Prompt, not to run Explorer.)

(2) Close unnecesssaly applications and press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            ####################################################
             BMC Firmware Online Update Tool (Windows)
            ####################################################
            
            Push any key to start update ...

(3) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed.
    Press any key. 

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.
            
            Push any key to finish update ...

    Command Prompt will be diplayed.

(4) Close Command Prompt.

(5) Reboot the your system.
     You should reboot to activate the updated BMC firmware as soon as possible.
     
(6) Confirm the BMC Firmware revision as below by any of 2-1. 
             BMC Firmware Revision  :  01.05

 That's complete.


3-3.  How to update  for Linux(R) OS :

(1) On console or on the terminal, operate following.
  1) Change directory into which you extracted the update module.
  2) Run following comamnd to add execute authority and start BMC Firmware update.
  
            # sh bmcup.sh

(2) Close unnecesssaly applications and press <Enter> key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            ####################################################
             BMC Firmware Online Update Tool (Linux)
            ####################################################
            
            Press <Enter> key to start update ...

(3) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 
    Press <Enter> key.

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.
            
            Press <Enter> key to finish update ...

    Prompt will be diplayed.

(4) Close the terminal if necessary.

(5) Reboot the your system.
    You should reboot to activate the updated BMC firmware as soon as possible.
     
(6) Confirm the BMC Firmware revision as below by any of 2-1. 
             BMC Firmware Revision  :  01.05

 That's complete.

4.  Note

 4-1 Note after the updated BMC firmware :
    If the remote management is used, the connections are disconnected during 
    rebooting the system after BMC firmware update. Please re-connect again.
      
 
 4-2 Error message for updating BMC firmware
   If updating BMC firmware is failed, following message might be displayed.
    
     C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
         - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
         - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware revision.
     
     C1  = Invalid parameter.
     C2  = Failed to image file load.
     C3  = The image file is corrupted.
     C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
     C5  = The image file is bigger than flash rom.
     C6  = Update tool does not support this firmware.
     C19 = File open error. (ExUpInfo.xml)
     C20 = Version info. Not exist. (ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
     C21 = Timeout was generated.
         - Cause : The update module may be broken.
         - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.
     
     C7  = Error while establishing the session.
     
       - Cause : Communication error occurred between BMC and Update tool.
       - Answer: Please try following steps.
                 1. Please remove external USB storage devices, such as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, from the
                    system in case that these devices are connected.
                 2. Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                    And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 3. If there is the same failure at step 2 , please use BMC firmware update module
                    for offline.
                    If update tool detects the same error in spite of above workaround, call the
                    maintenance service.
     
     C8  = IPMI command error. (Get Device ID)
     C9  = IPMI command error. (Get FW Info)
     C10 = IPMI command error. (Enter FW Update)
     C11 = IPMI command error. (Upload FW Image)
     C12 = IPMI command error. (Get FW Update Status)
     C13 = IPMI command error. (Check FW Image)
     C14 = IPMI command error. (Exec FW Update)
     C15 = Update status error. (Enter FW Update)
     C16 = Update status error. (Upload FW Image)
     C17 = Update status error. (Check FW Image)
     C18 = Firmware update error.
         - Cause : The updating BMC firmware failed.
         - Answer: Retry to update the BMC firmware.
             If there is the failure again, contact your service representative.


  4-3 Error message for updating BMC Firmware for ExpressUpdate via Management
    Controller
    If updating BMC Firmware is failed, following message might be displayed on 
    the screen of ExpressUpdate and application log of ESMPRO/ServerManager.
    In this case please reboot the system.
    And then please execute answer according to following description.
    
    " Failed to installation of update package. 
        (Checksum error occurred. The update package might have broken.) " 
      
      - Answer: Please execute the update again. 
        There is a possibility the update package has been corrupted if the same 
        problem occurs again. Please obtain the update package again.
    
    " Failed to installation of update package. 
        (Communication error: Cannot connect to the Management Controller.) "
      
      - Answer: Please reset BMC and execute the update again. 
        If the same error is detected repeatedly, contact your service 
        representative.
    
    " Failed to installation of update package. 
      (Failed to connect to the Management Controller. There are too many 
         connections to it.) "
      
      - Answer: Please reset BMC and execute the update again. 
        If the same error is detected repeatedly, contact your service 
        representative.
    
    " Failed to installation of update package.                           
        (Unknown error occurred while Management Controller is in process.) "
      
      - Answer: Please reset BMC and execute the update again. 
        If the same error is detected repeatedly, contact your service 
        representative.
     
    " Failed to installation of update package.                   
        (A HTTPS service of the Management Controller is disabled.) "
      
      - Answer: Please enable the HTTPS service of BMC and execute the update 
        again.
    
    " Failed to installation of update package. 
        (Authentication error. Confirm the authentication key of the Management 
         Controlled.) "
      
      - Answer: Please confirm the authentication key of BMC and execute the 
        update again.

2015/02/26 BMCFW Revision 01.04
 - Enhanced the automatic recovery feature of hardware monitoring function.
 - Improved possible deterioration in performance of remote KVM console with 
   host system that doesn't support mouse device.
 - Improved the problem that the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" button on the Remote KVM will 
   no longer function after pressing the "Ctrl" and "Alt" button and inputting 
   any physical keyboard.
 - Added "Enable HTTP1.1" as the necessary setting of browser on the "Client 
   Environment" of "Help".
