[ About the software ]
N8103-161 RAID controller firmware update module
(hereinafter referred to as "the software") is used for updating the firmware 
of the following RAID controllers.

        N8103-161

[ Software versions that require the update ]

The following RAID Controller firmware versions need to be updated:

        3.230.75-2648
        3.230.115-3241
        3.230.145-4476
      
  NOTE:
    If your RAID Controller firmware version is later than the above, the
    update is not required (the latest revisions already include the functions
    to be added by the software).

This update fixes the following phenomena.

  <Modification made in 3.230.185-8329>
   1)When a performing Hot Swap of a physical device on the configuration which
     N8103-161 RAID controller connect two Disk Expansion Units, There is a case
     sometimes which N8103-161 RAID controller can not recognize a new physical
     device.

  <Modification made in 3.230.145-4476>
   1)System event messages described below may register on the OS event log 
     and syslog when this RAID contoroller is used.
 - Windows system event log:
       Log Name   : System
       Source     : Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger
       Event ID   : 17
       Level      : Warning
 - Linux syslog
     pcieport 0000:00:03.0: AER: Corrected error received: id=2000
     pci 0000:20:00.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer,
      id=2000(Receiver ID),
     pci 0000:20:00.0: device [1000:005b] error status/mask=00002001/00002000
     pci 0000:20:00.0: [ 0] Receiver Error (First)

   2)Although regular checkup of Flash Backup Unit has failed, when the unit
     is not in failure state, switchover to WriteThrough may not be performed.

     *Flash Backup Unit is standard attachment item of N8103-161.

  <Modification made in 3.230.115-3241>
   1)There are cases that the system can not boot because the system retry
     repeatedly when a HDD return a certain error code persistently.
  
[ How to confirm the RAID Controller firmware version ]

  <Using WebBIOS>
   1) Power on the system.
   2) When the following message appears, press the <Ctrl> and <H> keys.

           Press <Ctrl> <H> for WebBIOS

   3) On the [Adapter Selection] screen, select the RAID Controller and click
      the [Start] button.
   4) Select [Controller Properties] of the left-side menu.
   5) The RAID Controller firmware version of your system will be displayed.

  <Using Universal RAID Utility (RAID Viewer)>
   1) Start RAID Viewer.
   2) Click the RAID Controller displayed on the Tree View.
   3) Click [Properties] of the [File] menu.
   4) In the [RAID Controller Properties] dialog box displayed, select the
      [General] tab and check the value for gFirmware Versionh.

  <Using Universal RAID Utility (raidcmd)>
   1) Open a console window (Ex. command prompt).
   2) Run the following command.

      # raidcmd property -tg=rc -c=C <ENTER>
      *note*
       The "C" indicates the RAID Controller number.

   3) The RAID Controller firmware version of your system will be displayed.

For more information on how to use WebBIOS and Universal RAID Utility, refer to
"N8103-161/168/172/173/174 RAID Controller User's Guide" and "Universal RAID
Utility User's Guide".

 ** NOTE **
 * Incorrect update could result in the problems such as failure to boot the 
  system. Read through the instructions in this document carefully for
  performing the update to prevent erroneous operation. When the system
  malfunctions or the power is disconnected during the update due to unexpected
  accidents such as power failure, lightning strike, power interruption and
  noise, it may result in damage to the device and system malfunction in the
  worst case. Please note that in such cases, repair may be required at your
  cost.

[How to update the RAID Controller firmware]

1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive of your system, and boot the system from
   the CD-R.
2) When the following message appers, press the <1> key and press the <Enter>
   key.

     RAID Controller Firmware Update Program
     ============================================
     1 [ENTER] ; Firmware Update

3) When the following message appers, the update is completed successfully.
   Eject the CD-R and power off the server.
       
    AdapterX updated.
    *note*
     The "X" indicates the adapter number targeted for the update. The number
     of numbers displayed varies depending on how many RAID Controllers are
     used.
