1.  About the software

This BMC firmware and SDR update module (hereinafter called "the software")
supports the following functional enhancement in the NEC Express5800/E120g-M
server module:

   - Changed from the Java applet to the Java application about IPMI information display functionality.
     * A remote KVM console or IPMI information display function in this version can't be launched on
       the Java environment earlier than Oracle Java7u25. If you would like to update to this version,
       please update to the Java environment higher than Java7u40.
   - Extended the term of validity for the SSL server certificate and the Java code signing certificate.

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow 
    the procedure for successful update. Should your system malfunctions or is 
    powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power 
    blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and 
    fails to operate normally. In this case, any remedial measures shall be 
    taken at your expense.
  
  - This software does not support virtualization environment.
  
  - To use for this software on Linux(R) OS environment, "OpenIPMI" package must
    have been installed and executed.

  - Before BMC firmware update, please make sure that a drive letter has been
    assigned to the virtual CD/DVD drive on Windows OS if the Remote Media
    function of the EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 is enabled.

  - This software does not support an update of SDR depending on the kinds of CPU
    or Power Supply Unit. Please use an offline update module.
 
  - If you use ExpressUpdate function of NEC ESMPRO Manager , 
    [ 2.  Models and software revisions for update ] and 
    [ 3.  Update procedures ] are processed automatically.

2.  Models and software revisions for update

Users who use the following server models and BMC firmware need update:

   - Target Server module: 
       NEC Express5800/E120g-M

   - BMC firmware
                     BMC firmware Revision:  02.25
                     BMC firmware Revision:  02.24
                     BMC firmware Revision:  02.23
                     BMC firmware Revision:  02.22


NOTE:
If your BMC firmware revision are later than the above, you do not require the
update(the latest revisions already include the functions to be added by the
software).

How to confirm your BMC firmware and SDR revision:

- By BIOS Setup, to confirm your BMC firmware and SDR revision:

 (1)  Power on the system.
 (2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
      Setup Menu. 
                        "Press <F2> SETUP"

 (3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
 (4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
 (5)  The software revisions of your system will be displayed. 

 (6)  After confirmation of the software revisions, press the ESC key and exit 
      the [System Management] sub menu. 
 (7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
 (8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 


- By NEC ESMPRO Manager Ver.6, to confirm your BMC firmware and SDR revision:

 (1)  Run NEC ESMPRO Manager Ver.6 on remote PC.
 (2)  After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab.
 (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.

 To confirm BMC firmware revision:

 (4)  Select the [MC(Management Controller) Information] sub menu.
 (5)  Select the [Basbrd Mgmt Ctlr] sub menu.
 (6)  The BMC firmware revision of your system will be displayed.

 To confirm SDR version:

 (7)  Select the [SDR-Management Information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
 (8)  The SDR version of your system will be displayed.


- By EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function:

 (1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function.
 (2)  Select the [System] sub menu.
 (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu.

 To confirm BMC firmware revision:

 (4)  Select the [MC] sub menu.
 (5)  Select the [Primary FRU Device] sub menu.
 (6)  The BMC firmware revision of your system will be displayed.

 To confirm SDR version

 (7)  Select the [SDR] sub menu. 
 (8)  Select LAST Record ID / Record Type : OEMSDR.
 (9)  The SDR version of your system will be displayed.

3.  Installation procedures

3-1. Prepare
(1) Prepare a CD-R or a USB HDD for the update BMC firmware.
(2) Extract the update module to a desired directory.
(4) Copy the directory to a CD-R or a USB HDD.
(5) Delete the directory.

3-2. How to update for Windows(R) OS :

(1) Run Command Prompt.
   1) Change directory into which you extracted the update module.
   2) Run following comamnd to BMC firmware update.

            BMCUP.BAT

     (You should run Command Prompt, not to run Explorer.)

(2) Close unnecesssaly applications and press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            ####################################################
             BMC Firmware Online Update Tool (Windows)
            ####################################################

            Push any key to start update ...

(3) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed.
    Press any key. 

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.

            Push any key to finish update ...

    Command Prompt will be displayed.

(4) Run following comamnd to SDR update.

            SDRUP.BAT

(5) Press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.
    
            ####################################################

            Push any key to start update ...
    
(6) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 
     Press any key. 

            Programming complete, reboot server for normal operation
            === SDR Online Update end ===
            
            Push any key to finish update ...
            
    Command Prompt will be displayed.

(7) Close Command Prompt.

(8) Reboot the your system.
     You should reboot to activate the updated BMC firmware as soon as possible.

(9) Confirm the BMC firmware revision as below by any of 2-1. 
            BMC Firmware Revision  :  02.26
            SDR Revision           :  02.10

3-3. How to update for Linux(R) OS :

(1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive or USB HDD on USB Port of your system
    if necessary.
(2) Download or copy the update module to a desired directory.
(3) Open the terminal.
(4) Change directory into which you extracted the update module.
(5) Run following comamnd to add execute authority and start BMC firmware update.

            sh bmcup.sh

(6) Close unnecesssaly applications and press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            ####################################################

            Press <Enter> key to start update ...

(7) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 

            Press <Enter> key to finish update ...

    Press <Enter> key.  Prompt will be displayed.

(8) Run following command to add execute authority and start SDR update.

            sh sdrup.sh

(9) Press any key after the following message.
    The update procesure will start.

            Press <Enter> key to start update ...
    
(10) After the normal complete, the following message is displayed. 

            Programming complete, reboot server for normal operation

            Press <Enter> key to finish update ...
            
    Press <Enter> key.  Prompt will be displayed.

(11) Close the terminal.

(12) Confirm the BMC firmware revision as below by the way of 2-1. 
            BMC Firmware Revision  :  02.26
            SDR Revision           :  02.10

4.  Note

 4-1. Note after the updated BMC firmware and SDR:

    (1) Logout all web browser on your system.
    (2) Login the web browser on your system if necessary.
    (3) If EXPRESSSCOPE Engin 3 is logged out, log in again.
    (4) During updating BMC, IPMIDRV Event 1004 is recorded in Windows system event.
        It's no problem for operation.

 4-2. Error message for updating BMC firmware
   If updating BMC firmware is failed, following message might be displayed.

     C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
         - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
         - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware revision.

     C1  = Invalid parameter.
     C2  = Failed to image file load.
     C3  = The image file is corrupted.
     C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
     C5  = The image file is bigger than flash rom.
     C6  = Update tool does not support this firmware.
     C19 = File open error. (ExUpInfo.xml)
     C20 = Version info. Not exist. (ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
     C21 = Timeout was generated.
         - Cause : The update module may be broken.
         - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.

     C7  = Error while establishing the session.

       - Cause : Communication error occurred between BMC and Update tool.
       - Answer: Please try following steps.
                 1. Please remove external USB storage devices, such as CD-ROM
                    and DVD-ROM, from the system in case that these devices are
                    connected.
                 2. Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                    And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 3. If there is the same failure at step 2 , please use BMC
                    firmware update module for offline.
                    If update tool detects the same error in spite of above
                    workaround, call the maintenance service.

     C8  = IPMI command error. (Get Device ID)
     C9  = IPMI command error. (Get FW Info)
     C10 = IPMI command error. (Enter FW Update)
     C11 = IPMI command error. (Upload FW Image)
     C12 = IPMI command error. (Get FW Update Status)
     C13 = IPMI command error. (Check FW Image)
     C14 = IPMI command error. (Exec FW Update)
     C15 = Update status error. (Enter FW Update)
     C16 = Update status error. (Upload FW Image)
     C17 = Update status error. (Check FW Image)
     C18 = Firmware update error.
         - Cause : The updating BMC firmware failed.
         - Answer: Retry to update the BMC firmware.
             If there is the failure again, contact your service representative.

  4-3. Error message for updating BMC firmware for ExpressUpdate via Management
    Controller
    If updating BMC firmware is failed, following message might be displayed on 
    the screen of ExpressUpdate and application log of ESMPRO/ServerManager.
    In this case please reboot the system.
    And then please execute answer according to following description.

    " Failed to installation of update package. 
        (Checksum error occurred. The update package might have broken.) " 

      - Answer: Please execute the update again. 
        There is a possibility the update package has been corrupted if the same 
        problem occurs again. Please obtain the update package again.

    " Failed to installation of update package. 
        (Communication error: Cannot connect to the Management Controller.) "

      - Answer: Please reset BMC and execute the update again. 
        If the same error is detected repeatedly, contact your service 
        representative.

    " Failed to installation of update package. 
      (Failed to connect to the Management Controller. There are too many 
         connections to it.) "

      - Answer: Please reset BMC and execute the update again. 
        If the same error is detected repeatedly, contact your service 
        representative.

    " Failed to installation of update package.                           
        (Unknown error occurred while Management Controller is in process.) "

      - Answer: Please reset BMC and execute the update again. 
        If the same error is detected repeatedly, contact your service 
        representative.

    " Failed to installation of update package.                   
        (A HTTPS service of the Management Controller is disabled.) "
      
      - Answer: Please enable the HTTPS service of BMC and execute the update 
        again.
    
    " Failed to installation of update package. 
        (Authentication error. Confirm the authentication key of the Management 
         Controlled.) "

      - Answer: Please confirm the authentication key of BMC and execute the 
        update again.

   - Modified to close unused port(TCP/UDP port 427).
   - Supported new sensor offset of OS Boot Events for System Event Log(SEL) viewer on Web browser
     and Mail Alert.
   - Fixed the issue that it can not access to EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 from Web browser after changing
     BMC FW setting in rare case. Fixed the issue that it can not change the user configuration or 
     the Management Software configuration after changing BMC FW setting in rare case.
   - Update online help on Web browser of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
   - Changed some strings on Web browser and Command Line Interface of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.
   - Updated OpenSSL module based on 1.0.2.
   - Changed the encrypted communication not to use weak encryption scheme and TLS compression.
   - Modified processing of system reset when OS reboot.
   - Improved the problem that the STATUS LED incorrectly lights green when AC 
     power is not supplied to one of 2 power units.

2016/07/15 BMCFW Revision 02.24, SDR Revision 02.10
   - Took measures to GNU C library(glibc) vulnerable to buffer overflow
     (CVE-2015-7547).
   - Update online help on Web Console.

2016/04/26 BMCFW Revision 02.23, SDR Revision 02.10
   - Modified to prohibit string which contains " ' " or "#" in some configurations 
     by web browser.
   - Modified to allow string which contains "-" or "_" in community name of SNMP 
     alert configuration by web browser.
