1.  About the software

  This BMC firmware update module(hereinafter called "the Software")  is designed for the functional 
  enhancement of NEC Express5800/T110h-S, NEC Express5800/T110h and NEC Express5800/R110h-1, as described 
  in "5.  Revision history".


Caution:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow the procedure for
    successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is powered off due to an unplanned event
    during update (for example, power blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be
    damaged and fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your
    expense.

  - Before BMC firmware update, please make sure that a drive letter has been assigned 
    to the virtual CD/DVD drive on Windows OS if the Remote Media function of the BMC firmware is enabled.

  - This software does not support virtualization environment.

  - If you use ESMPRO(R) ExpressUpdate function, [ 2.  Models and software revisions for update ] and
    [ 3.  Installation procedures ] are processed automatically. Please refrer to [ 4.  Notes ].

2.  Models and BMC firmware revisions for update targeted for this update 

 Applying the Software is required for any of the following server models with any of the BMC firmware 
 revisions:

 - Models to update: 
     NEC Express5800/T110h-S
     NEC Express5800/T110h
     NEC Express5800/R110h-1


 - BMC firmware revisons

             02.06
             02.08
             02.11
             02.12
             02.13


 - BMC firmware revisons after update
       <BMC Firmware Revision>
             02.15

Note:
 This update is not necessary if the above BMC firmware revision is older than yours, which 
 already includes the functions to be added by the Software.


2.1. Check your BMC firmware revision

 Remember to check your BMC firmware revision in any of the following three ways:

2.1.1. In BIOS Setup
 (1)  Power on the system.
 (2)  When the message "Press <F2> to enter SETUP" appears, press the F2 key to start 
      the BIOS Setup Menu. 
 (3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
 (4)  Select the [System Management] submenu and press the Enter key. 
 (5)  Check the displayed BMC firmware revison. 
 (6)  After checking them, press the ESC key and exit the [System Management] submenu.
 (7)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Exit]. 
 (8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 


2.1.2. In NEC ESMPRO Manager, version 3
 (1)  Run the EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function.
 (2)  Select the [System] submenu.
 (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] submenu.
 (4)  Select the [MC] submenu. 
 (5)  Select the [basbrd Mgmt Ctrl] submenu.
 (5)  Check [Firmware Revision].


2.1.3. In NEC ESMPRO Manager, version 6
 (1)  Run NEC ESMPRO Manager on a remote PC.
 (2)  Select a desired server, and select the [Remote Control] tab.
 (3)  Select the [IPMI Information] submenu.
 (4)  Select the [Management Controller Information] submenu.
 (5)  Select the [basbrd Mgmt Ctrl] submenu.
 (6)  Check [Firmware Revision].

3.  Installation procedures

  3-1. Check Secure Boot setting. 
    If it is [Enabled], change it to [Disabled].
     (Defualt setting is [Disabled].)
    If changing it, please return [Enabled] setting after this updating.
        *  Secure Boot setting : BIOS Setup Utility - [Security]

  3-2. Preparation for the software
   If your system can access the update module on the web, you may go to
    "3-3. BMC Firmware updating procedure".

  - Prepare a CD-R or a USB HDD for the update BMC firmware.

  - How to copy the CD-R or the USB HDD :

    (1) Download the update module, extract it to a desired directory.
    (2) Copy the directory to a CD-R or a USB HDD.
    (3) Delete the directory.

  3-3. BMC Firmware updating procedure

    Please update by following procedure.
    To close all running applications are recommended.
    If you skip "3-1. Preparation for the software", please go to"(3) Run Command Prompt."

  - How to update BMC firmware :

    (1) Insert the CD-R into the disk drive or USB HDD on USB Port of your system if necessary.
    (2) Download or copy the update module to a desired directory.
    (3) Open the terminal.
        - Move to the directory.
        - Enter following command for the update BMC firmware.

              #./bmcup.sh

    (4) The following message is displayed.

         ####################################################
         #  From now will start the update of BMCFW         #
         #  Please end all the applications.                #
         ####################################################

    (5) Close all unnecesssaly aplications and press any key to start updating procedure.
        (It takes about 5 minutes.)

    (6) After completing update successfully, the following message is displayed.

            Update is successful. Reboot is required for changeover to new FW.         

            BMCFW update was complete !!

    (7) Close the terminal.
    (8) Reboot your system.
        (You should reboot the system to activate the updated BMC firmware as soon as possible.)
    (9) Confirm that the BMC firmware Revision has been updated to the version listed below by any of
        the means described at (*1).

                          BMC Firmware Revision  :  02.15

4.  Note

4.1. Note after updating BMC firmware:

    (1) Logout all web browser on your system.
    (2) Login the web browser on your system if necessary.
    (3) Clear the cache of a web browser.

4.2. Error message for updating BMC firmware

    During updating BMC Firmware, following message might be displayed.

    C4  = The image file does not support this machine.

       - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
       - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware version.


    C1  = Invalid parameter.
    C2  = Failed to image file load.
    C3  = The image file is corrupted.
    C4  = The image file does not support this machine.
    C5  = The image file is bigger than flash rom.
    C6  = Update tool does not support this firmware.
    C19 = File open error. (ExUpInfo.xml)
    C20 = Version info. Not exist. (ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
    C21 = Timeout was generated.
         
       - Cause : The update module may be broken.
       - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.


    C7  = Error while establishing the session.

       - Cause : Communication error occurred between BMC and Update tool.
       - Answer: Please try following steps.
                 1. Please remove external USB storage devices, such as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, from the
                    system in case that these devices are connected.
                 2. Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                    And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 3. If there is the same failure at step 2 , please use BMC firmware update module
                    for offline.
                    If update tool detects the same error in spite of above workaround, call the
                    maintenance service.


    C8  = IPMI command error. (Get Device ID)
    C9  = IPMI command error. (Get FW Info)
    C10 = IPMI command error. (Enter FW Update)
    C11 = IPMI command error. (Upload FW Image)
    C12 = IPMI command error. (Get FW Update Status)
    C13 = IPMI command error. (Check FW Image)
    C14 = IPMI command error. (Exec FW Update)
    C15 = Update status error. (Enter FW Update)
    C16 = Update status error. (Upload FW Image)
    C17 = Update status error. (Check FW Image)
    C18 = Firmware update error.

       - Cause : The updating BMC firmware was failed.
       - Answer: Please reset BMC and wait for a while.
                 And then please retry to update the BMC firmware.
                 If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.

5.  Revision history

08/30/2022  BMCFW Revision  02.15
 - Extended the term of validity for the SSL server certificate and the Java code signing certificate.
 - Updated the code of OpenSSL to 1.1.1g.

02/22/2019  BMCFW Revision  02.13
 - Changed from the Java applet to the Java application about IPMI information display functionality.
   * A remote KVM console or IPMI information display function in this version can't be launched on
     the Java environment earlier than Oracle Java7u25. If you would like to update to this version,
     please update to the Java environment higher than Java7u40.
 - Extended the term of validity for the SSL server certificate and the Java code signing certificate.

 - Took measures to GNU C library(glibc) vulnerable to buffer overflow (CVE-2015-7547).
 - Fixed the issue that it can not access to EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3 from Web browser after changing BMC FW 
    setting in rare case.
 - Update online help on Web browser of EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3.

 - Added workaround for the issue Power Unit Redundancy Lost event is erroneously detected
 - Fixed the issue remote KVM console corrupts on delegation of access privilege between multiple 
    KVM console.
 - Fixed the issue "Physical Security(Chassis Intrusion)  LAN Leash Lost (System is unplugged from LAN)" 
   is erroneously detected.
 - Modified to prohibit string which contains " ' " or "#" in some configurations of web console.
 - Modified to allow string which contains "-" or "_" in community name of SNMP alert configuration of 
    web console.
