1.  About the software

The NEC Express5800/iR110a-1H BMC firmware update module ("the software") 
supports the following functional enhancement in the NEC Express5800/iR110a-1H 
models:

 - It supported Op5_Monitor.
 - The function which controls each signal of Break,CTS,DCD/DSR from remoteness
   in IPMI SOL(Serial Over Lan) is supported.
 - When using JRE6 Update19 and later version, the Problem that an unsigned
   applet start-up is blocked by security check is improved. [for N8115-03]
 - Recovery processing in I2C Bus Timeout is improved.


Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow 
    the procedure for successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is 
    powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power 
    blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and 
    fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be 
    taken at your expense.

  - This software does not support to update the BMC firmware by Remote Media
    on EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2.

2.  Models and software revisions for update 

Users who use the following server models and BMC firmware revisions need update:
 - Models to update: 
     NEC Express5800/iR110a-1H

 - BMC firmware revisions to update:

      - BMC firmware
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.04
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.05
                        BMC Firmware Revision:  01.06


NOTE:
If your BMC firmware revision is later than the above, you do not 
require the update(the latest revision already include the functions to be 
added by the software).

 - How to confirm your BMC Firmware revision:

   - By BIOS Setup, to confirm your BMC Firmware revision:

(1)  Power on the system.
(2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
     Setup Menu. 
                              "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

(3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
(4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
(5)  The software revisions of your system will be displayed. 
(6)  After confirmation of the software revisions, press the ESC key and exit 
     the [System Management] sub menu. 
(7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
(8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 

    - By EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2, to confirm your BMC Firmware revision:

(1)  Run EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2.
(2)  Select the [Information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
(3)  Select the [System information] sub menu and press the Enter key.
(4)  Select the [Firmware] sub menu and press the Enter key.
(5)  The software revisions of your system will be displayed.


3.  Installation procedures

- Prepare a CD-R or a USB HDD for the update BMC firmware.

- If your system be able to access the update module on the web, 
  you may go to "How to update".

- How to copy the CD-R or the USB HDD:

(1) Download the update module, extract it to a desired directory.
(2) Copy the directory to a CD-R or a USB HDD.
(3) Delete the directory.

- How to update:

(1) Insert the CD-R into the external DVD-ROM drive or USB HDD on USB Port
    of your system if necessary.
(2) Download or copy the update module to a desired directory.
(3) Move to the directory.
(4) Enter the following command for the update BMC firmware.
    "./bmcup.sh"
(5) After the complete, the following message is displayed.

    "BMCFW update was completed."

(6) Reboot the your system.
     (You may reboot to activate the updated BMC firmware.)
(7) Confirm your BMC Firmware revision.
        BMC Firmware Revision  :  01.07


4.  Note

- Error message for updating BMC firmware
      (a) Can't open IPMI driver.
      (b) It is not a target device.(HWID)
      (c) It is not a target device.(Update BOOT BLOCK)
      (d) It is not a target device.(BMC Device ID)
         - Cause : The model is not a proper model.
         - Answer: Check the model and the BMC firmware revision.

      (e) Erase error.
      (f) Update error.
      (g) Verify error.
      (h) IPMI command error.(Get Firmware Image Selector)
      (i) IPMI command error.(Set Firmware Image Selector)
      (j) IPMI command error.(Get Firmware Image Downloader Selector)
      (k) IPMI command error.(Set Firmware Image Downloader Selector)
      (l) IPMI command error.(Get Device ID)
      (m) IPMI command error.(FW ID Chip)
      (n) IPMI command error.(Get Channel Access)
      (o) IPMI command error.(Set Channel Access)
         - Cause : The updating BMC firmware failed.
         - Answer: Retry to update the BMC firmware.
                   If there is the failure again, call the maintenance service.

      (p) File open error.(mchk_fil)
      (q) File open error.(bmcfw.bin)
      (r) File open error.(ExUpInfo.xml)
      (s) Version info. not exist.(ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
      (t) Version info. error.(ExUpInfo.xml : <version>)
         - Cause : The update module may be broken.
         - Answer: Retry to download the update module and to update it.

      (u) Timeout was generated.
         - Cause : The updating BMC firmware failed.
         - Answer: If the system is in high load, you may wait for normal load,
                   then retry to update the BMC firmware.

      (v) IPMI message handler: BMC returned incorrect response, expected netfn
           XX cmd XX, got netfn XX cmd XX   (XX is an alphanumeric)
         - There is not the problem in movement after update and the update.
           In addition, there is the case that similar log is recorded in a 
           messages file, but there is not the problem about this either.


5.  Revision history

 - It supported Op5_Monitor.

 - Extended the term of validity for SSL server certificate of EXPRESSSCOPE 
   Engine 2 to ten years.
 - Supported the function of WS-Management.
 - Changed the description of HDD Sensor from "HDD" to "Drive" on "System 
   Environment" of the Web Server function. 
 - Supported the enable/disable function of Auto SEL Clear via command line
   interface.
 - Improved not to respond to access via unused port with LAN interface of the 
   EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 2.
 - Improved EXPRESSCOPE engine2 to respond to ping from ohter network segment.
 - Improved not to send PET alerting from BMC about the event that already 
   processed by ESMPRO/SA.
 - Supported the function that shows Remote Device Status on the server panel.
 - Supported the warning message about failing to run the Remote KVM console
   applet in case of an out of JRE memory.
 - Improved the issue that the timestamp on the System Event Logs (SEL) window
   is shown as +1hour from actual time if the OS of the management PC was set
   as summer time.
 - Improved the issue that the timestamp on the System Event Logs (SEL) window
   is shown as +1hour from actual time if the OS of the management PC was set
   as summor time.
 - Improved the issue that SEL/SDR/FRU/MC information window are not activated
   by clicking refresh icon in the Web Server function.

 The following items are functional enhancement when using the server which
 installed [N8115-03]Remote KVM and Media License.

 - Improved to enable to use Remote KVM/Remote Media function with BMC IP 
   address which includes "255".
 - Improved the issue that Remote KVM console becomes not available only 
   occasionally by the operation with Remote KVM console which changes graphic 
   mode of the host system. (Example. refresh screen / OS shutdown) 
 - Supported the Local Monitor Lock function on a Remote KVM console.
 - Supported the Zoom Function of host system's screen on a Remote KVM console.
 - Improved the Remote Media function that to be enabled to connect two ISO
   image simultaneously.

 - Supported the following browser for management PC.
   - Internet Explorer 8
   - Firefox 3"
 - Included workaround for the errata on USB1.1 function of the BMC chip.
 - Improved the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) client functon.
   (Supported Microsoft Exchange Server)
 - Improved a function of checking HDD status.
 - Improved the issue that connection may break off if the BMC Web Server
   function was used when a year and a half had passed since AC power on.
   (The connection can recover by logging on again.)"
 - Improved setting of connection for Management LAN not to be able to set
   various port number to 0.
 - Improved the issue that the string after '&' is invalid if string which 
   include '&' was set with web server function or command line interface by
   changing not to accept such string.
 - improved the issue that if web server of BMC was connected by https to with
   very unstable network connection, the status which not to be accepted
   following http/https connection happened only occasionally.
 - Improved the issue that function of Remote Console via serial (MODEM) port
   is not able to use after using the function of IPMI SOL(Serial Over LAN) or
   CLI remote console.
 - Improved the issue that the message about dump request isn't displayed to
   virtual LCD if dump switch was pressed again without DC power off after
   rebooting the server by pressing dump switch.
 - Improved the issue that alert message may be displayed in Japanese despite
   logged on in English.
 - Improved the issue that web server function and command line interface may
   be unavailable by login and logout web server repeatedly over hundreds of
   times with https connection.
 - Improved the issue that watchdog timer function and sending alert function of
   ESMPRO/ServerAgent may not be unavailable if set command or commands that
   specify properties were executed over hundreds of times by command line
   interface of BMC.

 The following items are functional enhancement when using the server which
 installed [N8115-03]Remote KVM and Media License.

 - Improved the remote media function to work normally with USB2.0 disabled in
   BIOS SETUP.
 - Supported the function of remote KVM and remote media with SSH port
   forwarding.
